Bump. Any progress on this one? It's one of my favourite forum projects and I was just thinking about it earlier in the week and wondering how it was going.
nooooo I was only yesterday, looking at my 1/24 scale model Ferrari F50, counting the cylinders in the engine bay (12.... which I never realised before.... wasn't the F40 a V8TT? anyway I digress) and thinking how awsome it is that someones dumping a V12 in a 300ZX Sad to hear its not happening (allthough I know someone in WA that wants to put one in another type of Zed )
Andy was talking about lengthen the chassis to accommodate it. I think it would be necessary, my V8 is squeezy and the V12 has another 2 cylinders on each side!
Ditched the chassis lengthening idea early on in favour of rear mounting 2 smaller radiators behind the tail lights, and modifying the radiator supports. Had to sell the motor when I was made redundant and had an offer for the motor by some dude in WA that I couldn't refuse. Not a zed guy, but a kit-car guy. Basically sold him a complete packaged rebuilt and ported 5.6L twin turbo V12 with manifolds and dry sump. Kept me going for a while, had no choice really, sorry to dissapoint you all, but I still have all my methods and sketches for bellhousing adaptors and manifolds, dry sump and engine mounts do it all over again without the trial and error of the past. I should give him a call actually...I'm curious as to how much HP it ended up putting out.
no no, no disappointment at all! that's a great attempt, we are pound of you being a V12 zed pioneer!
There is a bloke in Holland(?), one of the low countries, who has put a BMW V12 in a two seat 280ZX, fairly straight forward. He posts at HybridZ.
some guy in Japland has put that V12 into a supra, and then takes the car to other countries and outruns the cops in it... search on youtube i saw a video with him pulled over and some UK cops telling him off... they want to know where is the camera, and he says "sorrie carnnt spick englush"
