Up-date. Getting close, pity about the polycarbonate lenses. This is what I got today. Hi John. Yes headlights are practically done. Unfortunately there is no one in Perth who will make poly carb lenses. I have been speaking to a company in Victoria about possibly making them but moulds cost in excess of 15k, which doesn't really make it a viable option unless I sold a 100 sets at $500 a pair. The LEDs are due to arrive in the next week so I've been told so I apologize for the inconvenience but it's out of my control haha they have a unique way of operating over in china/hong kong. I'm under the impression that you have to take off the front bar to change the lights? Yes/no.
iirc you don't have to, but it's advised to make it easier. not like taking the front bar off is hard.
There was a guy in the states who put a bunch of capital into having a set of moulds made for polycarbonate lenses, then the guy in china who he was liaising with buggered off with the cash never to be heard from again......
Hi guys, I've been working on these and other LED replacments for the zed for a while now Here are the results let me know what you think. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gary_smithdale/sets/72157627375371291/with/6073001060/ and some videos At night http://www.youtube.com/user/ukdigipics#p/a/u/0/zDL_V9TNhso Daytime http://www.youtube.com/user/ukdigipics#p/a/u/1/YO7qvA22mKk
Thanks a lot. Now I have a big nose smudge on my laptop screen from where I was drawn mesmerically to your lights, much akin to that of a doomed moth is drawn to the hypnotically seducing candle flame. I am impressed! The difference between singular globed stockies and your lense filling masterpieces is absolutely polar, and your lights win hands down! Such a shame I just bought 2k spec nismo's otherwise I'd be seeking this mod asap. Spending right now is in lockdown for me
here is another video before the car was painted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJTWuw2lt9I To cut a long story short, Here in the UK we need a rear fog light to get through the annual MOT and as you know these dont come fitted as standard to the JDM zed. So in a Eureka type of moment i made some LED rear fog lights that fit into the centre panel and it went on from there. I was asked if i could design and make LEDs to fit the std rear tail lights seeing how expensive the clearcorner ones where. I now do a full range of Interior and exterior LEDs for the 300zx
Start your own thread. And in that thread, answer me this... are they copy 2k spec lights you make yourself or modified genuine 2k lights?
They look a lot better than stock but I'll be going with this lot. More led's hold the line better imho. By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-05
The best thing is you can put it on flicker mode during Christmas and have it change to the beat of carols.
Clearcorner's units are good but there LED pattern dosent follow the end contour of the light segment also mine use more LED's in both segments i.e: side/brake mine 196 per side clearcorners 156 per side Indicators mine 190 per side clearcorners 159 per side thats a few reason why i designed and built own own. i also do a LED 3rd brake light (spoiler version) and front fogs which can be used as DLR lights: side light or DLR portion: full fog light I can start a new thread on these if people are interested? thanks Martin
Are there any thin light diffuser films that can get rid of the dotty look of the LED's? If the lights were a consistant, solid colour I think it may look better than dots Material like.... http://www.inventables.com/technologies/led-light-diffusing-plastic-compounds but that needs to be injection moulded... or http://www.inventables.com/technologies/light-diffuser-films but not sure about effectiveness at such close distance..
I would definitely be interested...depending on prices...the cheaper the price the more people will buy them. I really like the fog lights...i had HID lights installed in the foggies and they were pretty bright but yours look brighter if you can start a threead with possible prices for each or even send out pm's that would be great. Good work Abraham
Cant do anything about the 'dotty look' lol. I think the only way to do it with LEDs would be to pass the light through a perspex sheet or tube. i like to think anything is possible.
