    300ZX Z32 VG30DE motor upgrade/rebuild info help

(qld) but all info is good no matter what state/country.

if you or someone can offer advise and don't mind posting their name/or company name, number or website. on this specific thread please do or if u feel uncomfortable please don't hesitate to pm me your name and details, as i will be in contact.

please if u cant offer any information or something please don't post garbage as i know everyone on this forum has his or her opinion in regards to topics. but keeping this in mind, this is a project and willing to try something new. thank you.....

okay guys i have sent off an engine to a guy, to be tampered with to gain some more power. but he deals with mucel cars/drag cars/ old-school engines with carbies and distributers, no-thing usually with so much electrical parts/wire etc on it. he deals with anything from 4cyl-8cyl you get the idea.

anywho's when my engin arrived he was stumped. he'd never seen such an engine. he stated that this might be a slight problem. as he dose not have the technology(tools/guides) nor the technical experience for electronics(not an auto electritian) lol.

what would he need to complete such a task. or could he just do a port and polish, upgrade cams, pistons, tuffen-up bottom end, and so on and so forth.

he was wondering how would he go about alining the cams and so on.

would their be anyone willing to assist, to give him information, advise/guide, or even know of a workshop who could give advice or guidance.

    Regards Shaun

if i wanted to spend $80k-300k on a motor i would do that i would send it to june in japan, but i dont want to spend that kinda money.

working a NA motor is pretty pointless. when you could slap in a twinturbo... and get triple the power and gains...

if you are doing a na build... u could do a stroker, big cams, individual throttle body, nos setup. new pistons ... but dollar for dollar a mild TT will always destroy a worked NA... hands down

Agreed, dont waste your time on an n/a unless you want to throw your money down the drain
Enjoy it with a few subtle engine and suspension mods and make a mountain beast or go some real power with a tee teeeeeeeee :)

You certainly dont send any zed motor to some twirp who has never seen one, thats just plain stupid

hahahha yerh i know guys, but like i said if u dont have anything good to say please dont say it. everyone has their reasons for doing things. tt anyone can make big power, for $30k i can get a VG30DETT makin 1000hp(so iv been told) but im not into the twinturbo cars guys, i like naturally asperated power its hmm how do u call it NATURAL. i have had it all worked out im just after some info and help. not peoples comments on what i should do. their is professionals in every industrie. some deal with ricer's and others deal with real cars v6/v8 mucel, this twirp as u call it works on drag cars which make between 2000hp and 7000hp so please don't statments you have no idea about. its a challange for him to try something different.

anywho's later on if i wanted to i can strap on a turbo or 2 to get more power. but its not any of my interests.

see most (P platers/ all (P platers would love cars with more than 200hp i don't have any idea how much this car engin will make. but when its done and in a car and ill get a dyno and print sheet(prof) cause all zedders don't believe anyone if the hp is too high so everyone has to prove with a dyno sheet, and most people cant. so yerh its better not to talk about my plans as yet.

    BUT USE-FULL HELP IS NEEDED

    hukie90 300TTorrr?

at the end of the day ull spend more money with that guy then u will with a zed specialist, reason being is they charge by the hour, someone who noes what there doing and looking for will do the job in half the time. half the money, better job as well. so pretty much go to a zed specialist man ull get more help that way GL

where do i find one in qld (brisbane/gold coast) yes i have thought about this mate, he's not charging me by the hour he's a family friend, he's gona make me pay for all the parts and a fee for doing the job.

Specialists usually work for the hour as a posed to the type of engine and power ur looking to pull from it. you usually get charged more for labour than the engine even costs, eg parts can usually cost u around 10-50k depending on brand, and the rest is usually labour costs. man i got money, i can go out and buy a big powered engine if i wanted, but as i said its a project car, something DIFFERENT, see MONEY grows on tree's with the amount of hours i work a week. (so money isnt the issue) just lookin for help rather than peoples OPINIONS NO OFFENCE INTENDED

drz400y is your guy to speak to for sure.....

i personally would recommend drz400y, but then again i am being biased, because after all as most know...he is my husband.:D

Eric does know quite alot when it comes to these vehicles, as i do own a 1990 NA and he has his own little 300zx that was a TT, but he is now putting an LS1 into it.

He has also done both major and minor repairs on several 300zx cars from this forum also (MagicMike, Drokk, Brisz, Kieren are just a few that i can think of).

If you want quality work from someone who knows his way around these cars and engines, then i would take my car to him. I would be telling you this too even if he wasnt my husband lol.

He has a workshop in Archerfield, his contact details are in my sig pic. Feel free to contact him. He will assist where possible

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

Yep, 3rded for drz400y. He IS the go-to guy for Brisbane area.

Shaun, curious about your N/A build. You seem very entusiastic about this project which is good to see. What sort of power figures are you aiming for with this? I think currently the highest ranked N/A power figure in the club is held by JEDI-77 who has around 150kw.

...on a side note, i did see you mentioned that you could strap turbos on this N/A motor later on if you wanted the extra power - but i thought i'd just let you know that you can't run any decent boost on an N/A engine because the compression is too high, so you wouldn't get much gain from that operation either. You would have to make sure you know which way you were planning on going before the engine build.

But i'm sure you have done your research and know what you're doing, so good luck and i'm sure Eric (drz400y) will be great help to you.

    Cheers. :zlove:

Drop in and see me through the week Shaun, happy to sit down over a coffee and have a chat about what you want to do with it. But please understand I am not willing to give away all my secrets to another workshop on how to build an engine. That would be just emptying my own pockets.

yerh mate i understand, ill bring my friend around as he's the one doing the build, u might even know him. but who knows.

I don't think you do understand, I am not going to sit down for an hour or so and tell another workshop how to build your engine. I will talk to you about what I can do for you, but telling another shop how to do it is not very smart commercially.

Best thing you can do, if you are keen to have this guy build it, print out and give him the service manual.

just because your mate builds 2-5000hp drag motors, remember he's working on 50yr old engine designs with modern techniques and materials. once he opens up your motor hopefully he becomes a little more familiar with it.

in any case, if your man blows it to bits there are plenty of 2nd hand N/A motors that pop up for sale on this forum :)

im interested in what you do with this build (dont stress, i have a TT[TIS]) good luck with it :)

lol yerh i dont care about blowing the engin to bits man, im the kinda person that would use nitro in an engine on the streets. but no just wanting to make some engin improvments.

the main thing is to see do u need the electronics to be hooked up to do the work, like on new ford/holden engins they need to be tuned and setup with computers.

or can u just strip it down and do the port and polish and what ever else and put it back together and plug and play or u have to set it all up with computers so that when u turn it over everything is aligned, rather than not aligned and u break internals.

so you're the kind of person that would use nitrous oxide on an 'NA' however you think that naturally aspirated cars are NATURAL in comparison to TT's? Wtf are you on dude? And what a dog act telling Eric you'll bring the person along who will be doing your rebuild to a meeting about doing a rebuild. What a joke haha.
End of the day, there are certain things you can do to an NA, but there is NO point (This is coming from an NA owner of nearly 3 years). I have been in a couple of TT's and there is no looking back, seriously.
