i have no aircon. Systems been degassed. Tried to take it in to get it regassed, was told it needs to be retrofitted. when i agreed, i was told the compressor is seized.

So i got a new one. i dont know if theres any oil in it. I have the front end of the zed apart atm so plan on swapping the compressors over, then getting it gassed in a week or so.

Just wondering. What do they do in a retrofit? Will they put new oil in? If so, can this be done
With everything in situ? Just want to know what state id be best giving it to the aircon guys in.
Do i need to put some kind of oil into th compressor? If so, what kind and when do i do this (compressor off car, or on it). Or do they sort everything out, simply requiring me to fit the compressor and dropping it off with them?

    Thanks for any advice.

Don't fiddle with anything, just fit the compressor. They will replace the oil if need be(they may also include a dye, which is used to indicate any gas leaks in the system).
They may advise you to have the Receiver/Dryer replaced at the same time(a common item during A/C servicing).

You'll definitely need the receiver/drier. Technically when the system is opened to the atmosphere it should be replaced.

I got mine for about $100 new earlier this year, if that gives you a heads up on market price.

  4. If you get a good air-con guy he will be able to put one in from a different type of car. I think I have a magna one or something in mine. They only cost about $30 as opposed to the $100ish for a proper 300zx one.

Just letting you know there are other options.

    Cheers

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

Seconded. i just had my system fully serviced and regassed after the engine pull on the weekend. He used another receiver in there that does exactly the same for half the price, then evaporated the system, all new oil, new gas with dye in it and new o-rings (that i fitted while the engine was out for ease).

All up was around $200 total. Now she freezes me tits off like it should! :)

But in saying this, my system has already been converted to the new gas (i can't remember the code for the new gas), so if your system hasn't been converted from what it was when the car came out, then you'll have to get the conversion done, which may add another hundred or two bux on top.

    Hope this helps :)
