Since he rejected 12.5k offer 10k instead and see what he says then! Get a few people to call up quoting the redbook price and offer 5k,7k etc and pretty soon 10k will seem like a pretty sweet deal! :p

The fact that he DID turn it down is because he knows what hes zed is worth to him due to be in great condition

Mate its worth 13K my zed is an aus-spec 92 model and i bought mine from a 65yr old lady, one owner. She had it serviced in the last five years of ownership every year while only putting 1500km on it each year.
Bought it with 78 000km she wanted $14K and wouldn't budge i got it for $13800.
I have now put 25 000km on it trouble free, best to spend a bit more if you can afford it knowing that it has been a well looked after car.

A zed in top condition is worth the dollars, BUT how you tell they are worth it or not is another story... Just ask r33k ;) (But it's fookin MINT! Lol)

Save up some $$ and go and buy Erik's Vert or Jono's white beast. Those are 2 zeds worth paying top dollar for :D

    An update to this thread:

Got my loan approved today, but haven't signed on the dotted like as of yet :)

Also, the bloke rang me today saying he will take the offer of $12,500, as well as supplying me with the VIN so I can make some just-in-case checks.

One more hurdle; I have an issue with insurance. Everywhere wants to charge me like $3000 for comprehensive :( will be looking into this tomorrow in my lunch break however.

    Thoughts? :zlove:

Get one of your parents to insure the car in their name with you as an under 25 nominated driver! sure if you crash it the excess will be high!.......but it will still cost you less than $3000/yr! ouch!....actually further to this my Shannons policy for my NA states that if the Under 25 driver is nominated on the policy then the excess is only $400!........$1500 if not! ;)........so bargain!

Sorry - just a further point - I just read the fine print! ;)........the $400 & $1500 is in addition to the basic excess on the policy! (whatever that may be?)........so if you were nominated as a driver it would be $400+basic excess!........but will still work out to be a more cost effective way to get fully comp insurance! I drove on my parents insurance for years until I gained enough experience & my rating improved to a point where I could get a policy outright in my own name at a decent price! ;)

If it's a stock standard Aus delivered NA companies like Shannons should cover this car fully comp for around $600-$700/yr for an over 30 rating 1 driver & depending on where you live? (high risk vs low risk areas?)

Keep in mind though that as soon as you change ANYTHING - even basic stuff like wheels, pod filter, etc etc the car then falls under the 'modified' classification & that will cost you even more again to insure!

I looked into doing this, but the premium was still incredibly high or they wouldn't even insure it. I thought they based the premium off the highest risk driver...

Dont put yourself on as a nominated driver then, you are still covered tho may have to pay a higher excess as a non-listed driver.

Don't you then run the risk of them not even paying up if something does go wrong?

Just car have a service where you can lower your premium by increasing the excess if you have an accident.

If its very unlikely it will be stolen / pranged, this is a good deal. I went from $1500 a year to $600 or so.

(plus, they don't advertise this - but if you've been with them for a year or more, you can pay monthly on insurance. It will cost you more, but if it helps with the bills...its worth it)

Jus car is shit... I don't see the point of paying $1k-$2k per year when they value the car at $10k if you are lucky...

They accepted the bought value of the car @ $12500 for me.

Think I'm going to buy it tomorrow and just go CTP+Fire/Theft for the first year I have it. That way it will teach me some self control at least - if I break it, I pay for it lol :p

Dude, my opinion doesn't really count around here as I'm not an active member. However, I have watched the For Sale thread for years and what you are going to buy is a rip-off compared to some of the great Zeds that have been bought and sold on this forum. Yes, it seems to have a great history and yes it looks reliable, just don't underestimate some of the cars on here. Perhaps take another look around?

    Just my 2 cents.

I'll go back to my hole now.

    Chrispy,
It is mint! Apart from the fact that the engine running for probably years with the timing belt 2 teeth out worn the shit out of the engine bearings :(

Will be 'as new' soon like the rest of the car :)

It's a lucky dip buying an old car..

Yeah, I'm going to ring and say it's still a bit expensive for my liking. He might drop it down a bit :)

good work, i payed top dollar for my NA when i had it (before i wrote it off:mad:) and it definitely payed for itself maintinence wise. Even tho 12.5 is alot in todays market fingers crossed paying a premium price will pay off in the future:zlove:
