Local garage has no clue.

Water or coolant? Aircon drain is down the back on the pass side.

I'd be checking your connectors on the coilpacks and injectors. You still got a S1 PTU?

Sell it and make a fortune :D

    IB ?????

Try running an ECU Diagnostic from the Tech Section. PTU failure usually throws a code 21.

I thought it only throws a code 21 for a total ptu failure - not just missing 1 cyl?

My money is on connectors as chrispy said

    IB ?????

I've seen code 21 on several PTU's that only failed on one cylinder. It's only a two minute job with a paper clip, so worth the effort.

ok cool - mental note :) Just checking cause I've not seen a code 21 when the car still runs :)

The next time it starts to misbehave, jiggle the connectors while the car is on...see if it makes a difference. Specifically the PTU connectors and the CAS connector (just watch your hands, that radiator fan HURTS!). They may look ok on the outside but the pins can untension themselves over time.

Put paper clip in last 2 points on plug.but all lights on in dash.
dumb question but I do not unplug and put pins in socket ?

diagnostic light does not flash when pin removed ( this is the light next to the door open warning light ) ?

car starts first up but has rough idle

Try and get assistance from someone with conzult - much easier :)

Start by cleaning and re-tensioning all the connectors for cas, ptu etc - Hell, make a day of it and clean all of them in the engine bay :D

    IB ?????

That normally means the potentiometer in the ECU has been left in the wrong position. You'll need to use the other ECU diagnostic.

the uce has never been touched since I have had car.
Started car till reached op.temp. and noticed coolant dripping at rear right of engine seams to be coming from head gasket. When engine stopped drip ceased.this must have only started and why level in rad. had not dropped.

Rear right as in Rear Passenger or Rear Drivers? Right changes from where your standing. If its Rear Passenger then it would be the Aircon Drain dripping (put your aircon into Econ mode next time you run and see if the leak goes away).

Not air con. not switched on and fluid is green coolant.it is rear passenger side but it appears to come from where head and block join, hence I think maybe head gasket, as I am approx. 40 ks out of Geelong it makes things difficult to get second opinion as I do want to drive in the present condition.

:( I hope not for your sake.

There are a lot of coolant lines down the back there. Maybe it's just one of them...

There are turbo coolant lines that run pretty close to the cylinder around that area, more than likely one of these rather than a head gasket. Very rarely do head gaskets leak external, almost always if they are leaking you will get combustion gasses in the cooling system.

Also the right hand side of the car is always the right hand side no matter where you are standing. Right side= driver side, left side= passenger side. Just because you are looking at the engine from the front doesn't mean it is now left hand drive does it?
