I have recently purchased a Nissan 300zx Z32 NA 1991 model and find that it is drinking the fuel like no tomorrow.

At the moment I am lucky if I get 100km out of a quarter of a tank.

Are they supposed to be this thirsty or is there some thing that can be done about it?.

probably needs a det sensor bypass or something dude.
search FUEL CONSUMPTION there are millions of threads..

NAs should be pulling at Least 500kms per tank.. mind u the stock gauge isnt linear either

+1 on the non linear gauge. I was reading next to empty, went to fill up and only put in 41L before I clicked and petrol came out the filler. Our tanks hold 72L, so that means there was still 31L left in the tank!! stupid gauge...or stupid level sender...

And 100k's from a 1/4 of a tank is about right, well if you are doing city driving and not driving like a granny.

you get 400-480 to a tank full of fuel on a TT around town. 100Klms for 1/4 tank is about right. What where you expecting?

i generaly fuel up around the 450 km mark and usualy put in from 40(rare minimum) to 60 liters, but mostly round 50. you'll probly find that the gauge is whacked like mine, mine says that its used a qauter tank some times only doing 20 kms, even thou i fuel my tank so i can see the petrol,so i'd say thats bout normal.
    i too have a n/a.

Pull a plug out and have a look-see, the condition of the centre electrode and ground electrode should give you a good idea of how your motor is running.

    Just do this,

    Fill it up.

    Reset the odometer

When near empty go back and fill it up again

Take note of KM and Litres of petrol to fill it up

Divide Litres by KM and if you get around 12litre per 100km it's about right. (what my NA does, mind you I have new O2, spark plugs, etc).

is this true for all zeds?

i usually pull in on the petrol light. she's never taken more than 55~ or so litres and if my right foot is being nice its usually round the 400k mark

i get similar 'economy' to the other zedders on here so the 400k should mean that i'm empty

    bit of clarification anyone?

    :confused::confused:

72L tank but the petrol light comes on when there's approx 12L still in the tank (there is some baffling around the fuel tank + residual fuel around it on the bottom of the tank). so it's approx 60L from full to when the light comes on.

see what alota people dont understand its the style of driving aswell as area's like my friend lenny has my old 300zx and he' claims that he's getting exactly that fuk all fuel to the tank. i stated to him its his style of drivin combined with his area he lives in st lucia, its all hills up and down, and most of his friends live in wierd places which also consists of hills and what not driving coditions, see if ur not driving fast b4 you climb a hill in the car ur car is strugling or working too hard thus burning fuel.

for instance stop and start traffic, depends on how much u push the pedal(excelerator), when i used to own it i used to get around 400-500km per tank on a n/a motor city based driving, if i were doing highway runs/cruises i would be making 550-600km per tank, if u drive it nice and easy like a grandma u will get good millage, if i were driving like i stole it i would be getting around 300-400km per tank,

and another thing try find one good servo to get ur fuel. and stick with it unless u were like way to far away to get petrol, i always only used bp ultimate, i found normal unleaded or premium my car ran ruff. (misfiring sensation/spiting and splatering) different rev ranges were underpowered, and very anoying. it also comes down to maintance if u look after ur car like its ur baby it will look after u, if u never look after it and expect it to drive hard then you have the wrong car.

u could try changing ur spark plugs, coil packs, fuel pump, fuel lines, o2 sensors if you think its necessary, mine was a 90moddle i never had any problems but each car has its own issues. u'v got to remeber its a 15-20yr old car its going to have something wrong with it.

i seem to find a long drive to like byron bay and back to brisbane is around a 300km trip, not sure where u live but find a far away place to test ur tanks millage fill up full then rest odo and then go for a highway drive. this will help to determine what is wrong. see city driving you can never determine ur fuel usages.

    regards shaun

mate this is a comom problem with an old cars they say one thing and mean another, if ur gadge is showing full when its not, or some thing other than full. it could be that u have dry spots on ur dash cluster, i had this problem when i first brought my car, it woudlnt work the fuel gadge(it would show full all the time and never move) then i took it out and took it to a electrical repair shop and they resoldered the dry spots on the unit and i put it in and its worked ever since like is should. if u drive the car and its on empty and the light shows up, you should still have 20 odd km's still left in tank,

like a back up so u can get to a servo b4 u run outa fuel. but the tanks are a 60ltr tank, that im aware of. it could be like sandeep said a 72ltr tank as a reserv. good luck with ur problem man.

Fix vac leaks, clean sensor connectors. The value of these two things is huge. You read it on the forums time and time again and then you get in there and do it and you think shit; that is what everyone meant about it making a difference. Good (nearly) free improvements to performance and economy.
