Just before to say that, verifie your info. I have buy exacly this kit from Devin Novak(z from japan). Yes,when I purshase it, The are Oliver rod but I have keep the Oliver rod and resale the rest of this kit with My discontinued Crower rod (not eagle as you stated). I don't have enought to finish this build and I m go to resale the part and waithing to have enought of money to rebuild a other engine with other route.

well if that is the case you need to dictate what you have correctly. those pistons had titanium wrist pins when you purchased them and you are now sending standard steel pins. Where is crowers stamp and or part number etched on the rods? they look pretty beat up and or really old. I only state what I said because there's just a bit if info and lack of product description on your part for such a modified assembly being shown. I'm glad to know that you did in fact buy from Devin...that at least confirms that the parts are legit so thats good to know.

    Good info

    In this thread,
Some more for you to ponder,
On big HP VG motors the girdle becomes a weak link, might look at strenghening that in your rebuild,
Also not a fan of Venolia pistons as having seen a couple of cracked ones, not enough meat between the gudeon hole and the bottom of the skirt, so i would be looking for something a bit better.:)

I'd be more worried about the block than the girdle

actually jwt 500s arnt lumpy at all ask the tt.net. you need some big lift jun items with huge duration !

seeing your boring you block that much you should consider cryo treating everything possible as it will help with strengthening if you havent already thought about it...also the stock tubing (inlet/outlet, to and from your turbo) i believe will be a very restrictive part in your engine and upgrading them will most likely help your cause

Really? Well there you go. I was just going by some of the advertisements Ive seen. Is it worth going the big lift jun items over the jwt, performance wise??

The lift on the JUN's are around the same, it's the duration at .050" that will be different ;) Sure they are both 272deg on the box, but that can be quite different depending on the exact profile.

big lift wont give you a lumpy idle, long duration will

Its the LSA, lobe seperation angle, that gives different idle characteristics, wider lsa gives a smoother idle, narrow lsa gives a rough idle. Both duration and lift will affect idle but nowhere near as much as lsa. Lumpy idles don't mean it will be fast.

Most boosted engines dont have a lumpy idle as the narrow lsa associated with it also allows alot of the fresh intake charge to be blown straight through the chamber and out of the still open exhaust valve due to the large valve overlap.

but duration and LSA go hand in hand right?

No, duation can be high, but lsa low, or vice versa. Take for example several comp cams for lsx, in the xfr range you can specify the same lift and duration but at an lsa from 111 to 118 in some cases.

So do you think its best if he drops down on the piston sizes for this rebuild? Its an awesome kit he got not to mention the price of it.. Will be interesting to see how all this goes. good luck with it drift spec. Hope to see future results posted.
    Cheers Damon

yeah this engine has the making to be something cool but also a hand grenade with the amount of meat left on the block if it detonates badly then the block will become shrapnel lol

dude 4Lts sure sounds awesome, but your proberly best going with the 3.4 option. 97mm bore is way to big very aceptable to overheating, eps if your drifting, high revs contantly.

3.4 will be awesome and safer, dont want to spend big $$$ re-sleeving only to have a worthless block..

if u go 4Lts, best of luck, i hope it works out great:D

    keep us updated.

    Hmm... Lots to think about.
Have spoke with Paeco and Crower in the US. The info Im getting so far is that they cant cant see any reason as too why I shouldnt bore to fit the 97mm pistons, as long as the sleeving is done correctly.
Appreciate all the advice/opinions so far guys. Just wish I could find someone out there who has bored and sleeved the VG30DETT to this extent. N how it ran. Or, upon the examination of a VG30DE block is it obvious that 97mm + sleeves is not feasible??
Also speaking with a few engineers in QLD and VIC. Enjoying the learning curve so far.
    Well... back to my researching:D:D
    Cheers all
