well it started out sunny... then as we headed west to the coast the weather turned to shit. Looks ok in the pictures but @ least 70% of the time spent driving through the twisty stuff was raining. clearly only the real men showed up 9 in total i think with 3 cars leaving early. but I don't blame you guys. the 6 cars which stuck around for the twisty legs all had a close call at some stage. there was also this shocker of a dip in one of the roads, kingy said he saw me in the rear view mirror with nothing but clear air under the car. he suggested I go through again so he can get it on video but I graciously declined... pics:
Well done guys. Sorry i couldnt make it. I had to work for 6 hours today and only got 4 hours sleep last night so it wouldnt have been a good idea for me to drive up to the GOR in that kind of physical condition with the weather coniditions the way they were. It was a terrible day as well. Was like winter all day. Glad everyone who did go didnt have any accidents or problems during the cruise. Ill be up for next year guys.
It was absolutely freezing today!!! I can't imagine it at the beach .. Well I hope you guys had a good time, even if it rained ...I still can't even drive my zed, as we can't get the bloody passengers window up
Great pics Mike! Congrats to all who turned up today. I was kinda glad I had to turn around at Torquay and go back to Melbourne. The front that came through Torquay as we arrived was awful, and I'm sure it got worse further down the coast. Good to see you all made it back in one piece and had a nice day. Having said that, 1 Vote from me to move the GOR permanently back to mid-November.
The run followed the original route right up untill the lunch venue, after which we decided we'd all had enough of the twisties and needed some more open roads..... Have to admit it was hard work concerntrating so intently along the GOR, staying off the white lines was paramount so I found out after a very close call with a rather solid looking crash barrier All up, those that attended showed great skill and complete car control in what had become a very tricky enviroment. I did try and talk Mike into re-running that "hump" in the road..... he had atleast a foot of air under the front drivers wheel and the car behind was clearly visiable under the rear wheel ....... V8 Supercar style all the way On the way home I lost all pressure on one bank... a blown cap was the culprit and was fixed as soon as I found it, sadly the system had also popped off a coupe of other hose connections and I had a big PSI drop as a result. Limped the last 20K's home and left the guys to wander along one of the roads they enjoyed so much last year, obviously Mike lead the way and safely brought the troops home, thanks mate Yeah it was cold... & wet..... but we had a good day regardless Thanks guys Kingy
The hump was unexpected.. I ended up sideways in the air.. was great.. so pleased i dint break anything... but my head to a pounding in to the roof.! What a great day .. 300's are even better in the rain..!! damien BENDER
When I got to Point Danger the weather was great, sun shining, very windy but you could live with it, then just before you lot showed up it all went wrong. Ah well, we need the water. Glad you all got home safe but. My luncheon fell thru because of the weather, can't have a BBQ when the coals keep flying out of the Webber. My vote for the November date is a VERY emphatic yes.
yeah a great day despite the freezing conditions, having joined at point danger I was definately having second thoughts once we set out & noticed you couldnt see lorne, our airies inlet, or the light house... or pretty much anything further than 20ft in front of you! another vote for November! Thanks for organising Kingy, looking forward to the next one. cheer, Tim
wow when did u do the roof mike that looks fkn awsome ??? and i cant belive u guys drove in that rain on the twisties fk that
more rain pics just for you chad you've got PM btw lots of fallen debris. there were some huge rocks in the middle of the road on the GOR, big branches on otway fly and blown over treets / bushes on the highway back. absolutely exhausted after only half a day of driving. felt like dozing off @ the wheel as you had to concentrate so much harder. big cheers goes out to kingy btw, even with this weather and his car later developing problems he still came out to guide us around on the cruise. huge effort really, IMO even with the rain more people should have came to show their appreciation. the route was awesome, just too bad about the conditions.
Hey guys had a great day... thanks Kingy was awesome... sorry i had to leave early... glad i did but, coming back the GOR got heaps worse huge rocks, and massive pot holes ... sounds like i missed all the fun. Pics look awesome... but u forgot to say a real woman showed up LOL.
Yeah the day wasn't too bad, it was good to have a bit of practise in the wet....how many times do u go the GOR when its really bucketing down? good experience i think. The company was great and we had a few intesreting moments like that massive bump that i think everyone can say they got air off, let alone sideways in the air...(bender). and also thanks to Kingy for organising. Xavier
And in showing up you made many a so called 'man' look somewhat cuteish in their skirts ! Pleasure was ours Shelly, good to catch up with you again
Thanks Kingy LOL..... Was great to catch up with you again... well let me know when the next cruise is still getting used this whole forum thing but i'm getting there LOL.... By the way November sounds good to me and rain hail or shine i will be there for the whole day this time. Catch
