OK, need to get some front tyres for the zed (235/45/17) and am after some recommendations. Currently using Dunlop Sp Sport Maxx all round, and they are an awesome tyre. But at $390 a tyre, I just cant afford these at this time. Looking for something under $200 per tyre, that is still a reasonable tyre. I got a quote for some Nankangs NS2's which seemed reasonable and may go with them if I cant find something else. Not the best tyre I know, but my car is not a track car, nor do I push it hard. Any other ideas for tyres? Cheers
Try Maxxis? again, not the best tyre but they are alright for the everyday and sufficient in the wet. I like the tread pattern on them too, very sporty
I had the Nexen 3000 on the front of mine and they were great in the wet and dry. Not a bad tyre for the money. Cheers Fran
I think my Pirelli P7s came in under $200 each buying them though Rik, might be worth seeing if you an lean on another sales guy to do a similar price.
Look at tyre Reviews on google and you'll see Maxxis rate very well for performance .. and are cheaper than 'more recognised brand name' but lesser performing tyres. not sure of perelli P7's though. I have bought Maxxis on front and Have Brigestones on back and they seem fine for road use IMO.
i would recommend the maxxis, the one i did a write up on, ive used it for street, track, skidpan, gor, etc...they did well and lasted a long time considering the punishment i put them through..i think you can get a set for a round about $750 ish give or take....i reakon they are better than the nexens imo...also they feel like a soft compound tyre but doesnt wear like one...thought i would give you a first hand experience recommendation Ryan
I had the Nankang NS2's for about 15,000km, I would advise against using these tyres. I ended up selling them well before they were out of tread because I wanted something better, not only for the track but for normal street driving (i found the ns2's were pretty average in the rain). If you can afford the extra $50 per tyre, get a pair of Bridgestone RE001 adrenallins. They are awesome tyres.
Mark, I've been using the Maxxis Victra MA-Z1 for 18months now and intend replacing with same, probably in another 12 months going on current wear. They retail around $180 (225/45-17, 235's may be a little more). 'Wheels' rated them as better than the GY Eagle F1 in the wet but not quite as good in dry conditions. The NSW guys seem to like the Nexen 3000's, but they don't appear to be readily available in Victoria.
i priced as set of nankangs 255-40-17 at a bridgestone dealer and they were $205 ea and the adrenalins were $340ea so ill be getting the nankangs
Go to the St. George Tyres (Sydney) web site, Mark. Give the NEXEN N3000's a go(you WON'T be disappointed, on price or performance).:zlove::zlove::thumbup:
No one could ever accuse me of being a slow-poke on the road, and my N3000's last 18mths-2years on average(mind you, I don't keep plowing my car into the scenery, unlike some).:zlove:
that happened with the nexens...maxxis kept me on the road...and i did become a better driver after that lil excursion...also ask anyone how i treated my tyres they'll tell you i wasnt too slow either
i'm using Maxxis and can rate them at being a very nice tyre for the money. My fronts (235/45/17) were pretty cheap...under 180 from memory. Rears were a bit more, around 250 for 255/40/17
CHILI this is what i did with my tyres at deca and they lasted a while after that too 1 year i had them before deca and then 6-7 months afterwards...i love maxxis
I'm not knocking Maxxi's Ryan, I'm simply recommending NEXEN N3000's as an excellent all round tyre(wet/dry grip and price).:zlove::zlove:
Ask yourself this question. Why would anyone get rid of tyres that are performing well(and still have heaps of tread)? Answer is, they wouldn't! So maybe S/Hand tyres aren't such a good bargain(you may be buying someone else's problems).
