Last weekend was driving along and saw my oil pressure get dangerously close to 0. I pulled over and popped the bonnet and the dipstick was missing, it had just blown out What would cause something like this?
Excessive pressure in the sump. Similar thing happened to me when I busted a ring. Hopefully yours isn't that serious. Could blocked PCV's cause this?
If it were PCV valves, would my exhaust be smoking? There has been no smoke coming out of my exhaust. Prior to this happening my car felt like it lost a bit of 'pull' and my boost was acting a bit funny.... it would spike up to 1.3 bar (never does this) and would keep boosting to 1.3 bar until i changed from setting A to setting B then back to setting A. This happened after the dipstick blew out aswell by the way.
Some folks have had smoke issues as a result of blocked PCV's. Don't think it could be effecting your boost though. Popping the dipstick is a classic sign they're blocked, any extra oil leaks lately? Take them off and clean them it's an easy job, soaking them in some fuel overnight will usually clean them.
Cool, thanks for the help Egg. Have definately noticed some oil leaks, will clean PCV's tonight. Hopefully that's all it is
PCV's virtually never wear out... I bought a set 8 years ago just in case I needed them, still new in the bag. Just a spring-loaded valve. Just clean them. *shrugs*
2nd. This happened to me in my old purple car, pop! out went the dipstick when boosting at 16 psi :S car still hammered though even if pot 6 was at 50psi compression
Badly refitted after checking the oil level, or blow by caused by blocked breathers or worn piston rings, get a compression and leak down test done on the engine to check the condition of the internals Jeff TT
