Hey all Sorry for the post, I have searched to try and alleviate my concerns but nobody seems to have anything similar (at least in the first 5 pages of results). Noticed over the last two days that my zed begins to emit a whining noise, starting at 2k rpm and getting louder as rpm increases, whilst driving. Best way I can think of describing it: the noise wind makes when blowing through a screen door, the kinda whoooo noise. Sound still continues if i leave the car in gear and roll down hill (eliminating exhaust noise, so i can hear better as my exhaust is kinda loud). Engine still at about 2.5k RPM At higher RPM the noise does not change in pitch, only gets louder. Noise quickly fades when i push clutch pedal in whilst at said RPM (eliminating new tyres making a weird noise ) Gear changes are still smooth, no different from before the noise started. Car has always made faint whirring noise when in neutral with the clutch out. I just would prefer to nip this in the bud *if* it is something which could develop into a more expensive problem. Given that most gearbox issues = gearbox out... Cheers for your opinions. Andy
Kinda hard to tell whilst driving Chrispy. I can hear it while driving with window down in my 2+0. Not so much a fan of hanging out my car while its moving. I suppose it could be the diff. Just figured it would be more 'box related due to the noise stopping when i put the clutch in. Open to suggestions
Have you ever changed your gear/diff oil Andy? Don't know if it will help, but can't hurt if it hasn't been changed.
Yep, change all your fluids, hardly anyone ever does. You should have seen my diff oil in the black Z! Grottiest thing I have ever seen come out of a gear related thingy.
Tried Trust Bearing` Does it change when you engage/disengage clutch. If so good bet its thrust bearing. Hope this helps Andy
