hey guys im thinking of upgrading my turbos i dont want to do the internals, so would a t28 be good choic or should i go bigger?
don't want to do internals of engine? What's your absolute maximum budget? IMO it's a bad time to be buying turbos as most things are imported or you'll be buying overseas yourself to get the best price and our dollar is doing pretty poor
i dont want to put new ones on i go to the wreckers pick up second hand ones. dont want to spend much i want to keep it under 1000 if i can.
DANGER you own a ZED not a silvia Cheep turbos (keeping in mind the engine will have to come out EVERYTIME they need swapping) is a baaaaaad idea If you buy cheep ones, you'll still have to pay to have them reconditioned unless you REALLY like pulling engines out just to swap the turbos....again my 2c. Turbos does not come under the heading "cheep upgrade"
ok. How much power are you chasing? If you want to keep the engine relatively stock besides turbos (unless i'm reading wrong) then might be better just upping the boost to 12-14psi and getting a good tune.
yeah im runing about 1.2 bar now want roughly maybe 350 rwhp dont want to push it more than that. whats a good turbo for the 300zx?
i had 269 on 12 psi not much just full 2.5 inch excaust no cats or silencer, pod filter fuel pump inter colers thats about it.
a good idea would be to go gt2860r, from an import s15 .. this will work out well for you ..... small moding needed but safe and they work well , and you can get them cheap to ,,,,, some people sell them for 450 500 each , ,, the stock engine is good to start with , so long as it in good condition , ,, most people would say not to ,, i think that's because the engine they started with is probably not in the best shape ... every engine is different ,. s15 turbos , good tune, some small engine work , porting etc etc, you should get verry good results,, make sure all your parts a clean and nothing is damaged , and of you go .....
Stock Turbo's... Stock Turbo's are capable of that power with supporting mods, proper tune and increased boost to 15-16psi. As long as everything else in the car is running correctly. You should be thinking of a turbo upgrade if you want to go higher than 350rwhp. EDIT: You said you're running 1.2bar but then got a dyno reading at 12psi? That's 0.8 Bar...? Cheers Rob.
I think ive got a dyno sheet with 350whp, or maybe its 250rwkw. with stock turbo's. but mine was extensively modified.
If youre after a purely bolt on turbo without the messing around try Hypergears atr25. I believe they are basically the same as the stock 300zx turbo but high flowed and for $750 each you cant complain. Compare this to getting the stockies high flowed and its a big saving - i paid $3200 to get mine done with GCG. Only downside of hypergear's is the use of a thrust bearing rather than roller (still, better than standard bearing stock unit). Should still see you into the 300rwkw territory..
Of course they will. 260rwkw with stock turbo's good IC's and a good tune. Add water injection to cool the charge and you'll see those numbers all day long. I was reaching 240rwkw on stock turbo's at around 12psi with a solid motor and a good tune. Shortly after this I increased fuel pressure and retuned to 18psi, no dyno sheet tho but I'd be assuming high 200's.
yeah i want something that just bolts on i prefer not to run the stock turbos on 17 psi i rather get litle bit bigger ones and run tham on 12 psi if that makes any sence.
i found these on the net are thay any good and how hard is it to put tham on? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/GTR32-Skyline-Garret-T28-Turbos-x2_W0QQitemZ250326069058QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item250326069058&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
Makes plenty of sense, bigger turbo's push a greater volume of air, at lower PSI, with less heat. A much better way to go if your chasing power. There are a number of true "bolt on" kits on the market, UAS distribute a few in Australia, or places like Z1 and concept Z sell a bunch as well.
