Nope, they both place extra strain

on the box ;) (unwanted sarcastic comment I know but) they do encourage one to speed shift which is hard on the poor old syncros.

I reckon you can get faster shifts from 3rd to 2nd with the standard shifter. I'e used a Stillen knock off short shifter for the last 2 years or so, no gearbox troubles, but it does rattle a bit due to the design.

I've been using one for about 18 months without any problems, and although I don't try doing ultra fast shifts, you do need to be more precise with your changes due to the gate pattern being so much closer together.:zlove:

I quite like the shorter shifts and you get much better feel. With the shorter lever you need to use a little bit more force.

But, yes, you don't want to slam it into 4th from third in a hurry. Slow, precise movements with a pause in the middle.

lol,its not a short shifter because of the length of it :D,its the travel from gear to gear that is shorter

i though it was.. coz if its shorter it has a shorter distance to move.. but u learn something new everyday...

but but.. it would still work a lil...
lol <-- todays dose to stupidity..

Me and 300ZXT had a 'discussion' over the merits of cut gearsticks a while ago. I did lots of nifty drawings to explain it all. Have a search it should turn up.

Short shifters look and feel awesome to use, ive been using one in a friends r34. Its alot easier to crunch the gears. Esp, with big hp.

the shifter in my subaru was like 5 feet tall so I cut it down, and it feels alot better than it did, even though its just cut and not a proper short shifter
