i recently changed to a 300zx from a toyota supra and i havent quite gotten used to diagnosing vg30de engine problems nissan and toyota are quite different beasts i was driving my car last night and suddenly it started to sound like it was missing on 1 cylinder but there was no engine vibration which usually come with a cylinder not firing properly when u rev the car up it sort of stuggles to rev compared to how it used to rev b4 and wen u take ur foot of the pedal it drops below 1000rpm and almost stalls im hoping it just needs a new set of spark plugs but i was wondering if anyone has had such a problem b4 im kinda scared to drive it just incase its something more serious
Hey mate sounds like you have a faulty PTU or injector connectors or spark plug connectors. You can es this buy dissconnecting one coil pack plug at a time then if nothing move onto injector conectors. You will know if it is a plug if you unplug it and the engine idels the same.
i think your right, but when my ptu was playing up the car jsut automaticlly turned off in the middle of a corner doiung about 50kmph and the revs spiked and dropped even though the car was off. once i cleaned the ptu it did the same thing, idled good but once u revved it died. i think its more the injector connectors/spark plug connectors. but deff test all connections, and it wouldnt kill to clean the connections and wobble the cables on the ptu. all the best mate. rod.
PTU is power transistor unit, in the toyota circles you might know it as an ignitor? or ignition control module?
