So when pulling a blinged up engine back together its time to replace all the bolts... no points making everything shiny is the stock bolts make it look shit. My question is who replaces them at coventrys and stuff, and who just takes a back down to get nickel coated or something?
get them chromed man, and then like get little bodykits for them and you can have little bolts with bodykits and green paint, that would be fully wicked or you could polish them on your giant forehead!!! i think i'm gonna get banned for this
getting them plated isn't cheap from what I remember but the results look good. Cadmium plating looks good but I seem to remember it's illegal for some reaosn or another I wouldn't bother chroming them, you'll probably crack the chrome coating tightening them on Edit; did a quick search and didn't find anything telling me cadmium plating was illegal, I thought I read it a couple of years ago when reading a build up thread of a 180sx and he had just got the nuts and bolts plated and I thought someone said it was now illegal, meh obviously not
leave them all soaking in a bowl full of brasso or the silver equivalent and watch them become new again. Or try degreaser.
I got boxes of stainless steel socket head capscrews, replaced everything in the engine compartment while the engine was out, and replaced everthing on the engine, looks cool( except for the dumps heatshields on which I used S/S hex head bolts)
I was thinking about getting a few boxes of hex bolts to suit and making some engine bolt bling kits up.. but put sure... i might get some strippers and see what i can do to buff them up... but hex bolts just look nicer....
they charge a fair bit for that sort of "service" and a lot of them won't be into it, in some states I think it's illegal
Josh, chrome plating works out more expensive unless you can swing something through work. I can't, all my chroming and all my s/s bolts cost me money. However, I have plated throttle body bolts and timing cover bolts - looks good. See pics below. I have also done stainless steel bolt (socket head, csk socket head and button head cap screws) kits as a GB, and still sell them to members on a permanent basis. If interested, drop me a PM with your email address and I can send you a .pdf file with what I can do. If you have access to good pricing at Coventry's, that may be better for you. Cheers, Mikey.
Do what i did josh,go and get good quality stainless bolts, bring them home, light sand the tops on the belt sander, out with the dremel and polish them I have done this on every bolt in my engine bay and you cannot tell the difference between my chrome bling and stainless bling ,stainless when polished up looks great I normally do my polishing late at night in the workshop, its quite relaxing lol
