I got the allignment done at Bob Jane yesterday. They told me that my front camber cannot be adjusted. The values for the front camber are: Previous: LH -03.20 RH -02.80 Final Values: LH -03.40 RH -02.70 Now I was a bit confused because back in november I had those adjustable camber arms installed (the ones that everyone has). They are supposed to be adjustable so whats the deal here? Can anyone shed some light on the matter? Cheers, Don
Well, if you really do have adjustable upper control arms fitted, I would take it to someone with proven wheel alignment ability(obviously NOT BJ's).
Dude, just cause you have the arms fitted doesnt mean they will use em. I had similar issues with a local place. In the end I told the alignment guy to piss off and adjusted them myself on the machine while he got a coffee. Its obvious most alignment places are either too dumb or too lazy to do the job properly. I suggest that is what happened here. Take the bugger back and stand over him till he does it right.
He definitely said camber, not castor? Alot of places will only do toe for a wheel alignment. Explain to him you have adjustable camber arms and tell him to get back to work...
Bobjanes sell cheep heavy wheels Na its not fair to diss a whole chain because of 1 person at 1 franchise store Locally I found Ian Diffens to be the place to go, allthough our local Bob Janes is fine for the Excel.
Bob jane here told me the same, however gave me a quote for 1500 + Labour to Supply and fit adjustable Camber arms, and all this other Shit thats not needed, Put the tyres from the back on the front, and 2 new ones on the rear when i asked for 2 new FRONT tyres...
Swapping tyres like that is common and a good idea. "When a vehicle encounters a loss of traction scenario on the front wheels, traction can easily be established by the average driver by......................................... slowing down this is easily recoverable it is called Understeer When a vehicle encounters a loss of traction scenario on the rear wheels , the driver cannot compensate, effectively. This is called Oversteer, or "Fishtailing", and is not easily recoverable by the average driver. Therefore, the tires with the "best" tread should be mounted on the rear axle, to avoid possible life-threatening vehicle control problems" http://www.michelinman.com/tire-care/tire-saving-tips/replacement-questions/#install-tires
No way! Cost me 350-400 to supply and fit mine!!! (inc wheel alignment after!) think I may steer clear
I went to the shop, ive never heard of new ones on the rear, and especially when you say nothing about a rotation, Just straight up, I WANT 2 NEW FRONT TYRES... and you get a massive quote, and the job done dodge....
The big quote and dodgy job is another issue, but asking for two new fronts, most tire shops would swap them with the rear. it's a safety issue. Plus in a RWD, I'd want my wheels delivering power to have better grip, on top of the issue with oversteering.
Always been told, best to the front, and also, i went into the shop a week later, and asked should the better tyres be on the front or the rear, and thats what i got told, FROM THE SAME SHOP THAT PUT THEM ON.....
Wheel Alignment specialist FTW Once it is no longer stock you are usually wasting your time and money by not taking it to a specialist. Like Ken at Accurate Suspension, Underwood.
take it to a place that is more experienced with such setups. bob jane is not one of them :bash: in one of my previous threads i noted never to get ur wheel alignment done at a bob jane lol... all they can do is align toe in/out. the guy on the machine was so stupid i had to tell him how to adjust them....his manager was gettin angry with how long he had spent on the car and still didnt get it done. :bash: at the end i took it to another place dedicated to full custom settings... wasted my time and money what pissed me off the most was they told me yes they can do full custom settings no problems.
i had a very similar experience. when i first lowered my car and fitted adjustable rear arms, took it to bobjane, SPECIFICALLY told them i had adjsutable rear camber arms and to adjsut camber aswell, guy comes out 40 minutes later and says "what a barstard car to work on" and then tells me he went over the time quota just adjusting the toe and he wasnt going to 'waste more time' adjusting camber $60 down the drain and had to pay $100 the next day for a proper allignment :bash:
Try fulcrum at moorooka ... or any recommended specialist, there was a recomendation for someone at underwood above if closer.
