yes its 2 gran rebate......your friend probably has the old system of gas, which is where you have to pay only $500.....in that system the gas is pumped through your normal fuel lines and hence you can use both LPG and petrol, but the thing is that economy is like 25% less than petrol and also decrease in power( especially that the car is tuned for petrol and not gas)

Other option we are talking about is a full injected conversion that is around 2k out of pocket in which you have injected gas at has less than 5% less ecomomy and slightly more power. In this case you will obviously tune it for gas only hence getting the ecomomy higher and more power hopefully.....and since you are doing this you can rip out the old tank and fit the gas one in, but you will need to rid your fuel lines etc(so not sure if cost is a little more).....i just visited my mechanic(western mufflers in fairfield) and he recons i should go for a full converison but says to leave the petrol tank in and get rid of my spare tyre and get a 40L tank in there( no boot space loss and cheaper and easier)......this is obviously for the a6 which you can probably fit 4 huge men in the boot easily....no joke...

ok....just received some more info about direct injection..

i wanted to remove the old petrol tank but with direct injection you cant do that as you need to start on petrol which then switches to the gas. So whats making me scratching my head is how did people get straight gas conversions on their zed, unless they managed to fit a donut tank in the rear or something similar????

also with the tuning( keeping in mind this is for a audi a6), was told that road tuning is better as the afm recieves different amounts of air more suited to normal driving while dyno you cant, while other place i talked to said dyno is better but road tuning can be good enough that i wont be able to notice any difference.......

btw both people i talked to were

    1. gas conversion place in sydney that sell heaps of parts but dont really do the conversion themselves, but the actual guy has done it on his audi a4 which has the same engine as mine

    2. Smaller country gas conversion place/mechanic that actually does them but hasnt done it on this sort of car.....

i dont know if this is normal but im not 100% which one to go with as both have different thoughts.....lol......i guess you get that with new things that plp arnt too familiar with...

    been there, done that.

drop me a line if you need info.

both n/a and turbo conversions were dedicated gas and removed the fuel tank and spare tire well.

scotty im sure MANY people would love to know the full story behind what you have done. would you be able to maybe write up an article on what you went through, what you did and what was needed. your outcomes etc...

i read your previous thread i posted but you never finished it off with what your outcomes were etc...

im sure a full written article would be very much used for reference from this site and many others....

i have thought of a very good reason to NOT do this

Have you ever drivin behind a car running on gas?

    DAMN they stink

Why would you do that to the other road users?

    SHAME i say. SHAME

yes but have you ever driven behind another zed on normal fuel? i nearly died of carbon monoxide poisoning when i was following him to the skid pan not long ago, then again his "high flowed" cats mightve has something to do with it

So, if you basically get it down to a KW per injector formula, maybe it's a good time for those considering a V8 engine transplant to also consider this.

from all i have found out, it is an expensive and unventured pathway that may have potential problems unless it is done on a car that it is commonly done on ie. holdens.

I have tried to get injected gas on the audi and was told to it would cost 4500(yes i know 2 gran rebate 2500) with a donut tank. But ive called half a dozen places, even recommended by my mechanic(western mufflers that do heaps of performance cars) and all said yeh it can be done but some are either unwilling to do it or when we showed we were more serious they said it is something never done before and they would need certain layout plans of someone who has done it other wise it will cost alot more and may have problems........

I think waiting a little longer may be better for the fact that it will become cheaper and people will be alot more aware of this new injected system..

so it seems the 2k rebate lines the coffers of the gas installers now. Whatever happened to the 2.5 or 3k gas install now its 4 or even 4.5 k install great to see how things are cheaper with gov rebates hey

its due to the new injected systems.....the old traditional ones are still the same price or slightly cheaper....

I'll stick to meth injection and large turbos thankyou very much

And maybe some of CBZX's browngas stuff...

you all suck dogs balls, roll them around in your mouth and love it!
then you go back to your pointless, computer geek, lame life and wish you had the balls to experiment with your cars and get your hand off it!

Wonder how long until the RBPs roll in. I won't delete until I get a few. Don't necessarily know where all that came from :).

Next year, I'm going to buy a dual cab ute and covert to 100% plug in Electricity.
Equiv economy of Brisbane to Sydney for $10
Might even try a Zed if it all works out well.
