Hi guys. Okay, I have changed the fuses around, both the 15 amp and the big ones and swapped bulbs to try to figure out what the problem is. The drivers low beam used to work most of the time, but occasionally it would drop out for a while, and now it seems to have dropped out completely. Has anyone run across this one before?
By drop out do you mean stop working briefly then go back on again without changing fuse? If this is the case then it could be that the earth wire on the headlight is not attached to the casing properly. If you bend a few of the wires around does this fix it?
That sounds like the most likely solution. The headlight used to go on and off once in a while if I hit any bumps in the road. I had a play around with the wires going into the bulb and it didn't make any difference, but a bad earth does seem to be the only thing that makes sense. I'll keep playing with it. Thanks.
I Had this problem sort of When i bought my z31, the front left hand side was not working on low beam. It ended up to be the headlight switch, turns out that each side and each high/low beam has its own little "pop stick" switch. I played around with these for a bit and bent the popstick back into a better position, and no worries now I am looking for a new replacement switching unit. I can find ones but they are for the us, and i dont think that they would work on my car, because of the different steering wheel positions... Dave
turn you headlights on ,,, under the fuse box. were they all connect ,, there is an earth wire the that comes of ,, what you need to do is open the box from the bottom and , turn the lights on and play around the wires there ,,, and you should find something wrong ... while your there check the rest of the shit in there ........... i had the same problem .........
It's come back to life again! Woohoo! I just turned them on to test the theory of playing around with the wires under the fuse box, and it is working again. I still haven't figured out what is causing it to come and go. I tugged on the wires around the fuse box a bit and it didn't seem to make any difference, but thanks. Good to know. I'll try that too next time it goes out.
Could it be a loose spring clip holding the bulb in place? If the bulb metal mounting plate doesn't contact with the headlight mount via the spring clip it might also cause shorting issues.
Had a similar problem (light would go off if I hit a bump (easy to do on Melbournes roads), and come back on if I hit another). Turned out to be a blown globe where the filament would separate and then reconnect at the next bump. Changed globes and no more problem.
