hey guys im just bout to get my first 300zxtt, (coming out of a na mkiv supra)
i done a bit of a search but couldnt find all the answers i was looking for.

1st of all, i have herd that the 300's need to keep a really good tune to run well, is this tru? so i am leaving aside money for a ecu upgrade (anyone no any good ones?),

also how are the stock intercoolers? will they need to be upgraded along with the ecu if i want to run around 16psi? (if that figure is to high plz let me know as im not to sure how much they can handle!)

what other suporting mods should i do 1st up other then intake and zorst? i dont want to go overbored, if i had just a zorts and ecu upgrade what sort of power could i be looking at?

anyway sorry for all the questions, thanks alot guys.

A pod filter, turbo back exhaust with high flow cats, 16psi, larger intercooler(s) and a remapped ecu or aftermarket ecu will see you between 230-250rwkw.
This of course, is providing you have a nice healthy car :)
Have you had the 100,000km service done yet?

    just a few q's

nearly everything you asked could be found using the search. :) They are cheap and easy to get about 250rwkw out of. Above that starts to cost. If I am wrong I have a flame suit ready and waiting :)

the car i am looking at hasnt had the 100k service yet,
    how much does that cost?

Parts and labor probably very close to $2,000. I would suggest doing that first.

It depends how tech savy you are. You can get the 100k kit from caz, around $700 then add labour, if you can do it yourself obviously much cheaper.

jeez steep! lol will get that done straight up
so getting the ecu remapped would be sufficent enough instead of buying an aftermarket ecu? what are the cost diffrences?

ok thanks mate, one of my mates is a good mechanic so i get dirt cheap labour anyway, might be able to do alot myself tho :)

There are many high HP zed's running only a re-mappedstock ecu, but i prefer aftermarket. You could probably get a re-map done for close to $500. I am running a wolf 3d.

250kw doesnt sound that much for all that work really?, the one i drove today felt to have a fair bit of power, it just had zorts/intake and 14psi? might just be my seat of the pants-o-meter is off, lol

I have to agree with the 'pants-o-meter' comment. How is that not much? that is 250rwkw with just basic bolt-on and breathing mods. Wait until you change the turbos

$500 sounds alright, i would be looking at double that for an aftermarket ecu wouldnt i?
i was unaware the stock ecu could be re-mapped, good news i guess :)

Yes. Double that and then more money ontop to actually have it tuned!

i guess so, the cars i have drivin with that sort of power have all been newer like xr6t's and they dont feel as fast as they are, guess you just feel it alot more in the Z, i no thats how it is with my supra, for a na it feels alot faster than 140rwkw.

250rwkw is plenty, enough for a 12 second 1/4 mile with good tyres and enough to light up the tyes and step the back out easily in 3rd gear at 90kph. . Best Idea is to spend your money on the maintenance items first and get used to the stock power and handling before going this far anyway, these cars can bite inexperienced drivers pretty easily, seen it heaps on this forum over the years.

i have drivin cars with 250-300rwkw's not saying i am calling myself experienced i know i am not, but i have an idea of what to expect
good advice tho thanks mate

    get a "good" TT

    Hey mate my quick advice...

would be to get the best mechanical TT which is stock and prepare it for your mods by 1) compression test (the proper way) 2) colling system check/overhaul 3) 100k service kit including auto tensioner 4) datascan check / error code diagnostic

check off those 4 things and your on your way to big power.. your 100% stock manual TT should put out 170-180 rwkw if you complete the above properly...

forget ice / rice and all that untill your mechanically perfect at stock power

add your exhaust from the dumps back, pod filter, run an ebc to set your boost at 14, (or get your boost jets if low on cash) and get your ecu socketed to perfect the rich a/f mix.. and Bang 240kw without breaking a sweat

all this shouldnt set you back too much and id recomend getting a car thats for sale in the forum so you can varify most of the history...

    Good luck bud

    Frank

hmm.....are you sure you sat in a car with 300rwkw, could of been 300kw and that goes to something like 250rwkws or less.....

These engines can max out on stock turbos and internals at around 300rwkw.....so 250rwkw is not something unachieable......but as said before, get your 100km service done, or just buy my zed:D

Right on - I got the timing parts for about $550 AUD and beer was about $30.. couple of Saturdays and I was back on the road. You can save a lot of money with some time and a repair manual.

no i'm not saying the 300 i was in had 300rwkw, i meant i have driven cars with that amount of power that actually didn't 'feel' as fast as the z if that makes sense.
