Picked up 3 TT motors today for the Zed. Decided I needed to cross the final frontier (so to speak) and pull the motor of the Zed and slot in a suitably (ie INSANE) motor in it's place. Anyways the first step was to aquire another motor to do all said things to so I can still drive the Zed around when I feel like it, and then slot the shiny (oh, it will be SHINY!) new motor between the towers when it's ready. To cut a long story short I off-loaded 3 VG30DETT motors into the garage today and tucked them away in the corner until I get a parts washer to wash all the bits in after disassembly. BTW these motors are HEAVY, even with a hiab fitted truck. Next step will be to pull all three apart, select the best heads, block, crank etc and send off to x-ray man to confirm they will suffice for said modifications. Mods will be: Heads- bigger valves, CNC port work, decking, polishing, maybe new springs, big lift cams, funky cam gears, probably removal of VVT. Block- crack tested, line bored, honed, painted. Crank- crack tested, checked for straightness, linished (hopefully) only needed, fit some nice billet rods and forged pistons. I already have a lot of HPC coated pipes and manifolds on the current motor so these will probably be recycled to the new motor, or perhaps sold with the motor when it comes out of the bay. Still undecided on that one. While I slowly work through the build process I'll be scouring the globe for nice bits to bolt to the sides. Something capable of about 600RWHP would be nice, but will make decision ultimately dependent on spool up and torque. I already have most of the electronic sensors like TPS, O2's, IACV, but also have a brand new Oil pump and strainer waiting to go in, plus other stuff I've been buying over the years. I'm looking forward to doing this so will keep this thread going with updates and pics.
woahhhhh , this sounds like funnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. you have informed all now u must update as progress goes on with detail and pix ...good luck with everything
haha wth? You continue to pull rabbits out of the hat so to speak haha, can't wait to see the end result of this one P.S. been playing guitar hero much?
Oh yes, I am both addicted and frustrated with GH3! Especially Muse, that song just hurts even on the lowly Medium!
I can only dream of a day when I can afford to build a new engine for my zed. And it would prob still be a NA.
Sounds insane mate, best of luck! ohh and if you're having trouble on Muse, check out Through the Fire and the Flames on expert
sounds very interesting, will be good to see what you come up with..... seems alot of wa guys are getting motors built....you,simmo,miksta,me eventually....
I havent had spare money for 12 months but you watch next year I've only spent about $1000 this year on my zed in non maintenance items.
thats nice being able to build while still having your car on the road enjoy the engine building experience!
Yeah it'll take all the pressure off to have it back together and running to get a car mobile again, therefore probably a higher level of presentation and quality. I'll have to go back through all the posts regarding engine building now. I never really took more than a passing interest in them as I never intended to do much with a new motor for a very long time. You never know, if I get 2 motors (minimum) fully rebuilt I might just plastic wrap the spare and casually wait for a nice 2+2 with a blown motor to put it in...
Man this sounds sick, you chose a perfect way to go about this by taking out your engine and putting a different one in for that 1 month to 10 years of building a engine by doing this you dont have to go down and run it thru the pits which means no trouble legalising coz you will use the original engine block same engine number. Legalising 600 RWHP good luck lol If I ever do this/get this done I am doing it this way!
