If you are talking about the upright seat, yes you can. I have one fitted at the moment, but it has to be fitted between the seats. It can be seatbelted on both sides then, and there should be a securing bar directly behind the rear seat.

It is good for the child because they are only next to passenger and driver....

here is a pic of the seat installed....

Sure, I have had a baby seat in the Z since I bought it in 2004, fits great, although the passenger can no longer put the seat right to the rear without squashing the bub :)

haha, I like the way you think.....

but I don't think I'm going to get away with that. I love my current black Z and hope to find a nice 2+2 black one. But my main focus will be on finding a car in the best condition. I also need an auto now  so that my girl can drive it. My manual has quite a heavy clutch, and certainly not what a small girl needs in Sydney traffic!

Fitting child seats in a 2+2

In our AUS spec 2+2, we have two types of child seats fitted...

A proper 5-point harness seat being a 'Mothers Choice' brand which we found after much searching at Target fits perfect into the Z32 deep rear bucket seat allowing both the rear anchor belt and lap-sash belt (note: I have just un-did prior to taking this photo) to be used as required. Note the grey velour is about a 95% match to the stock 1995 interior if you notice that kind of detail. Our little guy loves this seat because he sits high enough to see out the quarter window! Whatever your seat selection, one experience tip I suggest is to cut some rigid cardboard to fit under the seat to help disribute the total weight of seat + child across pressing into the soft foam front-edge (under the knees) to minimise permanent deformation. I also use same cardboard bent over the top-edge of the seat back to minimise anchor belt mark. In the 2+2, the anchor point position behind the rear seat in is almost directly vertical down, so once the child seat is installed, you can continue to fit the roll out privacy cover as normal (note: I have just removed mine prior to this photo).

Like most modern car seats, this same Mothers Choice seat is designed to be fitted typically first as rear facing, then later forward facing. Originally, we attempted fitting child seat in rear facing position. Yes, it is possible, a very neat fit, however the front passenger seat had to be moved to maximum forward position and seat back had to be adjusted to vertical to the ground - this is an impossible acute angle riding position for the adult up front. Result was we did not transport 2 adults + 1 child in 300ZX until child was strong enough to travel forward facing.

For our older guy, who outgrew using the 5-point seat, about 2003 we were given by complete accident a 2nd-hand older style 'Safe n Sound' brand booster seat which fits perfectly with a flat square base and importanly a hinged back - you know the story about someone elses rubbish! With a booster, a larger child can use the lap-sash seat belt with perfect ergonomic fit. I could not even tell you if these are even in production anymore, but about 3 years ago we bought a brand new replacement elastic seat cover for this model booster from a car seat shop.

    Hope this guide helps you!
    Mike

    That's great info....

Thanks MikeB that is great information. We have already bought the seat so wont be able to get the older model now but it is great to see a photo of the seats fitted. Surprisingly it looks quiet spacious.
