I just bought a "repairable write-off" 89 manual TT 2+2 from Sydney and noticed when the truck dropped it off, that it had a 3" mandrel bent, fully welded cat back (at least - haven't checked the dump pipe/turbo components yet) Kakimoto exhaust (so the labels say). How good are they?
Anyone seen a 3" system on standard turbos?

I've got a kakitmoto muffler, the rest is just bent bits of pipe, but kakimoto mufflers definately have a good throaty tone to them whilst still being nice and smooth sounding at highway speeds.

had a kakimoto setup on my first Z. sounded brilliant! nice and quiet until you opened it up. not the best looking tips/mufflers however

I had tune agent dumps, cat back was kakimoto with 4" tips. It was just the way i wanted my exhaust system to be, queit on idle not droning on highway driving and sounds absolutely mint when giving it some stick

My beast has a kakimoto 3 inch cat back, its awesome, really well made was probably a key component for mine to put down 330rwhp on stock turbos/coolers/intake

that one looks a bit better than mine. mine didn't have the rolled lip, so looked kinda cheap (IMHO).

    Kakimoto All The Way.

    Hi all,

    Yep, me too.

I have a twin/dual Kakimoto exhaust: I think from memory it has resonators and two oval style mufflers with huge outlet tips with slight angle cut to them. I would never get anything else as the sound is fantastic. Shouldn't use the word sound as that doesn't describe it wih any finesse...

Very nice 'burble' at idle not too loud, sounds great at highway speeds absolutly no droning at all and when you put the hammer down it is pure bliss!

Not too sure exactly what model it is as I had a look some time ago on their web site but no luck in finding it. It actually came with the car when I purchased it - someone had painted the mufflers black so as not to draw too much attention and only the chrome tips show up, which is sorta nice.

    +1

I've also got a kakimoto turbo back exhaust, single cannon. Would have liked it to be double, but that's what came with it when I bought it.

And yes it sounds good, although I'd prefer it be a little less loud at times.

nice! I have a kakimoto exhaust

its pretty awesome the tips polish well. The best thing about it is the sound..its quiet as! Got some really good mufflers, so you dont have to worry about getting pulled over but still get the performance of a good exhaust. I only wish I could get kakimoto front pipes to match but they are a tough find!

    :p

Brand name "pipes" are overrated, it's the muffler more than anything that will determine the sound. In my opinion it's better to just get a custom system made up and then take your pick of mufflers.
