I got a quote for a 5.7 SS Ute the other day, for a base system $4200 and a premium system (which he recomended because of the V8) just over $5000.

Even with Johhnys $2000, not worth it for me.

Some guy on the southside quoted me $3000, but the guy above said that system will blow manifolds off.

    Just my 2 cents

A base system, $4200 in a ute is extreme rip off!,rough prices, Tank under $500, mixer $200, evaporator, $200, computer $180, lines etc, $50, $3000 for install, less than a days work???!!!
With all the extra work when the LPG scheme came in, most of the installers put their prices up( some by $2000,nothing like a bit of exploitation) best way is to do all the tank installation yourself, even setting up the vapourier and mixer not difficult(a badly trained monkey can do this) and get a certified installer to run the lines ,check and tune it,and put the plate on it.you need the plate and receipt to claim the $2000.(there is a technical illegality  involved in doing this, so find the guy who will plate it before you start.:) )

LPG works better the higher the compression(within reason, say 12 to 1 max)It would put some viagra into an NA as well.
Be aware their is a huge difference between an LPG expert tuner and an LPG installer!
Still waiting for a pic of the tank location (and size)

So who's gonna be the first to paint their Z taxi cab yellow and get to work and actually make use of an LPG system on a 300ZX? Or is it just for broke ass people who want to seem like they're driving a fast car but get cheap ass gas? lol I would imagine a Z being completely gutless running on LPG.

300zxt i think you got it wrong, and if you understood you would actually support this idea.

the thing is gas CAN be weak as shit, when its in a dual fuel system, then you have hundreds of possible problems and down falls...

but on a stand alone gas system, your running a propper tuned 110ron setup, you should be looking at more power, you will chew through the gas pretty quick, but hey it would still work out cheaper.

and when you feel like driving soft, a dual tune or boost controller could get you some sweet ass economy.

Defiantly try somewhere else. For the vapor sequential injection on my commodore some places quoted $4500!! I did a bit of looking around and got it for $3850. Johhny gives his $2000 state Gov gives me $1000 and all i have to pay is $850:D :D

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

    Like the TTS unit ;)

"Twin Tune Select" from 90TTZ. Along side with a dual stage boost controller would be perfect in this occasion me thinks ;) :p

hmmm...this is different. not sure if im a fan though, im sure there are advantages (namely lower fuel costs) but an lpg system just seems out of place on a performance car. in theory you can get more power if its tuned properly due to higher octane rating but realistically the increase would be negliable unless you went all out (and then it wouldnt be worth the cost for the gains).

shame all the installers are so booked out that they won't even look at anything there isn't an easy to install kit available for and if you install it yourself I can't imagine you'd be able to get any govt subsidy $ for it.

I think it's like the ethanol debate. Sure it has a higher octate rating, so you can advance the timing and increase the boost, but it has a lower energy density, so you're just making up lost ground on gasoline.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_density

46.9MJ/kg for gasoline, 34.39MJ/kg for LPG.

I'm not expert though, but they are my initial impressions.

Don't hold your breath waiting for an easy install kit for a Z32,apart from the tank there is the "space??" problem under the bonnet. heaps of other cars out there to put a system in . My 1JzVvt single turbo 260Z will be getting gassed as soon as I get my hands on a wheelwell donut tank.

Another one of the stupid LPG myths to dispell, "you have to start on petrol ,then switch over"- only if you are dumb enough to have dual fuel, and are tuned for petrol!

Always run plugs that are a colder range than you would have for petrol(another problem with dual fuel, different burn heats)Petrol needs heat so that it will not foul the electrodes on the plugs, LPG vapour will not absorb heat so colder plugs function better, better burn.

Running an engine on dual petrol/LPG is like trying to run an engine on steam and diesel. If it does go, it will preform badly on both.

A mate of mine built up a 355 on straight gas and the power figures he was putting out naturally aspirated he could only get on fuel if he was running avgas or race fuel, so it does have its advantages i think. Remember it may have lower energy.......but you can allways counter that by getting more in!:D

My mechanic who does some drifting/racing is also specialised in LPG conversions.....he does a really good job and really cheap......A quote of 1500 for a major service by half a dozen mechanic in the area, he done it for 800-900....

anyways he told me that gas has higher octane, but is only better when you have it injected, and you have to make sure the car does not have soft heads or something....

In regards to the higher octane thing, he said the natural stuff in very high in octane, but has a feeling that the ones from the pump are not the best.....

Should i ask him for a GB.....lol we could have a huge tech at his workshop, LPG conversion cuz..

I don't think you can just ignore the whole stoichiometric ratio thing...
