...well only a smidgen lol so in the mornings i start the car for a few min to warm it up before i drive off to work during this cold start and when it idles (idles fine) it will blow some smoke from the drivers side exhaust only mind u its ONLY during this step, once i get it out the driveway and start driving to work, it dose not smoke anymore, idles fine, drives like a dream it didnt happen as much before so i didnt pay any attention to it but last few days its been doing it every morning any ideas what it could be?? cheerZ
running too rich? Has the weather been different recently? I had a little bit of smoke when i turned the car off once, coming from the passenger side exhaust. Since the service i haven't noticed it again.
I had this same problem. Mine was definately oil that was burning, not a rich fuel mix. I changed to a slightly thicker engine oil, and problem fixed.
the colour is white i think mine is an oil issue as well, its due for a service soon so i might change to a thicker oil see if that makes a difference
Oil burning is a dead giveaway, because it doesn't matter whether it comes from valve stem oil seals, piston rings, or turbo seals, it it still oil and it stinks!!!! Fuel and condensation and even coolant have far more pleasant smells.
Crankcase venting Mine smoked during idle, from both zorsts, often one more than the other. Worst when idle, would clear up during hard acceleration. After I changed the PCV valves and cleaned out thier hoses it stopped smoking 100%. Not even a visible puff during idle, cold starts and even racing the engine.
this might be a n00b question but how come it only comes out from the drivers side exhaust and not the other???
This may be a scary answer, but it could be a leaking oil seal on one turbo, only time will tell.:zlove::zlove:
drive side zorst Depends on the setup. The lower plenum swaps sides. SMICs; drive side zorst = passenger side turbo & intake. FMIC; drive side zorst = drive side turbo & intake. If its the PCV valves playing up then one side maybe blocked or stuck shut, other side maybe stuck open or working ok. I had both stuck half open ==> smoke from both zorsts. oh yeah and boost getting into the crankcase which was causing oil leaks all over the place, especially from the rear main seal.
If your pcv valves are screwed would you have oil in your plenum? yea my car sometimes smokes on startup to (but i haven checked if it smells). There is no oil before the throttle bodys so my turbo seem to be ok. Can you just take your pcvs out of yout plemun and use a breather tank?
interesting u should say that, coz i have a greddy catch can installed (check my site for pix) but only my drivers side is pluged!! edit: would this have anything to do with the smoking?!?!?
lets hope its nothing serious mate...i had the same thing and now i will be due for a rebuild in a year or so.... you do realize your plenum will get a tumor if it doesnt stop dont ya
Strange how Z motors can damage engines so easily. Is this a trend on modified engines only or is it a stock problem to
catch tank you want to make sure you don't take in unmetered air, careful how you setup the catch tank. anyways the system works ok as is, just needs to be maintained sometime each decade!
You want to ditch the catch tank and revert to a stock system, then see if it still smokes? Oil on start up is usually oil leaking down through the valve guides/stem seals!
yeh i think thats what he means, correct me if im wrong though MarkH: i cant ditch the can setup, if u look at the pix in my site you'll see y
