Just a quick note to all,
We have now completed the dedicated LPG conversions for our non-turbo and turbo Z's and have been running for about 3 months.

see you all on the sunny coast hinterland criuse on the 23rd sep

    cheers scott & bob

Wow, sounds like a great feat buddy. Do you have some pics or info on your conversion?

Also, how do you go with the tune? did you have to do some timing or a/f work to your ecu to get it to run properly?

seriously ?? where do you mount the gas tank?
get some dyno figures. gas cars are allways weak . perhaps you can prove them wrong

I've seen some crazy stuff done with XR6T's running on gas. Apparantly the trick is to get individual gas injectors. But they are pricy, like $500 each  Got some really good numbers out of it coz they can load up the boost and advance.

this is interesting, ye he mentioned its dedicated gas which meanss no petrol tank...

im very interested to hear more about this, wat you did..wat was needed....how much it cost...wat you got done to get it running properly...tune...dyno graphs etc?

    ;)

random Q, how much does LPG's pressure drop as the tank is emptied?

    ..very good news..

    we want pics!

and in regards to dyno figures.. there all full of it... never a measure of 1/4 mile time...

most will have a lower output due to tuning for both petrol and lpg.... but a dedicated setup to gas will ensure a proper tune to good power...

remember for turbos ... lpg is aready a vapour so would suit forced induction more.

cheers .. and eager to see!

    frank..

Dedicated is the ONLY way to go with LPG, All the bullshit "No Power" "gutless" stories are from Twats that convert, go dual fuel, and are tuned for petrol, and refused to let it go,-It's a security blanket thing.
split timed cam, Gas Research carb, and LPG (around 110 octane) You will never want to run petrol again.(interested in where the tank sits in a Z32)

    Actually..... your wrong !

Straight LPG vehicles that have been tuned for sole LPG use produce more power than a straight petrol car.

The power loss is due to ppl having the 'duel fuel' option fitted, the engine cant be tuned for both fuels 100% efficiently, therefore its a de-tune of both systems in order to gain the compromise of having both fuels available.

I have a straight LPG 350chev in my patrol, it was duel fuel for a long time, after the conversion to sole LPG use all I can say was its like getting an extra 50cubic inches .... there was that much differance in performance. Ecconomy also increased noticably too:D

    As for the tanks.......

where the hell did he put them ?

Maybe the tanks were put in the stock location as there would be no need for the petrol tank.

Lpg tank technology has not got much past sausage. or donut tanks, if you have ever pulled the tank out of a Z32 and seen the shape, you will realise that the only thing that will fit in that weird shaped space is a Z32 petrol tank:biggrin:

You can get Gas tanks to go in the place of your spare wheel. I'm having my VX commodore fitted to vapor sequential gas injection next week. Apparently you only loose about 5% power over petrol and has better fuel economy than the normal gas systems. The downside is it costs more.

The spare wheel well in a Zed is probably too small for a donut tank , it's was only designed big enough for the "pretend "spare.
Check out a gas cam when you are converted, gas set up properly is magic, and,John Howard will give you $2000 towards the conversion.
I have had 4 V8s running straight gas through Gas Research carbs, more powerfull than they ever were on petrol.(you have to uprate the cam)
When the gas scheme came in I put a gas only system into my wifes series 6 Celica shopping trolley , cost $1200 , (Still get the full $2000 bonus for converting-free money! ) a run Leichhardt to Gosford 175Ks, $8 LPG 16 litres. And more grunt than with petrol, that's with an Imco 225, and no engine mods.

Isn't gas rated at like 110 octane?

Scenario that I'd be interested in finding out is.... If you have a dedicated gas system in your Z and the gas is 110 octane, wouldn't you be able to crank the boost and advance the timing to the buggery and get massive HP?

I'm no expert on this subject so I'm all ears.... :)

Well done, this is something I'm very interested in doing myself.

If you don't mind could you give us a little more info, regarding cost, what needs to be done, where you fit the gas tank etc.

    oh and:

    :worthless:

lol awesome, i was doing some searching the other day... came up with bens old thread about this... and how we worked out it wouldnt work due to no place for the tank etc.

now someone has done it thats awesome... but couldnt the tank be put inside the hatch, providing it has sufficient bracing to hold it in place? you would lose your entire boot though i spose.

its great someone finally done it, and yeah you can crank up the boost with gas... only problem is, it burns alot hotter then petrol, so you would wanna make sure you upgrade your radiator *cough 53mm twinpass* lol.

would love to hear some more details and see the dyno chart.
