Does anyone know if a 3 gauge A pillar pod unit is illegal to install and have in Western Australia or Australia in general. They sell them in the UK so just thought it was worth checking.
Im sure i answered this in your wanted add All 3 gauge pillar pods are illegal as the third gauge is above steering wheel height and deemed a safety hazard If you want a pillar pod,and be legal ,you have to get a 2 gauge pod Youll find on most aftermarket parts that are for sale ,it is written in fine print, not legal for road use go one like mine from fleet ,legal and looks great
My understanding is that even a single gauge A-pillar pod can be deemed illegal if it is considered to be in the driver's line of sight. But at the end of the day it depends on the circumstances where it is "discovered". If you are pulled over and the policeman takes a disliking to you, the A-pillar pod makes you a sitting duck - as does a pod air filter, or BOV's, or 20" wheels, or a boost controller, or air horns, or an aftermarket steering wheel, or ....... On the other hand, if you are a sensible citizen on our roads, as I am sure you are, it should never become an issue.
from my understanding ,its the third gauge that is deemed to be in the drivers line of sight ,but like u said,it depends on sgt donut's attitude i guess
Depending on what gauges you buy you should be able to buy a mount kit so you can place them wherever you want on the a-pillar. That way you can position so they are low down on the pillar and not above the steering wheel height, or alternatively place them on the dash, roof, steering column, ...on your leg...... etc.
yeah the one i got off fleet, you can position it anywhere on the pillar,i positioned it low and have had no dramas from plod
I'd also stick with the dual gauge pod Remember, it's not just the number of gauges, but what your gauges are. You can't have any that are linked to high pressure fluids, due to the risk (although minimal) of it squirting onto your windscreen, blocking your line of sight. So, you can boost in there, but not oil pressure. As others have said though, it can come down to the cop you get pulled over by on the night...
You can put oil pressure, and fuel pressure there. They just can't be mechanical. Use electrical and you're fine.
True, true - too late to edit now dammit... Most people will have the mechanical gauges, not many that I've seen on the forum have electrical. Though I'm sure all that do have electrical gauges will proudly post them up now!
i have electric oil pressure! lol now who wants to help me wire them up?! nah i know how now, now all i need is some goddam time (and dont say now while im on here im stalling for a assignment). everything said above, mostly about line of sight, but its down to police discretion. also chrome rings around gauges are illigeal, i got 2 pods, and i think 3 is just askin for trouble all pillar mounted. also simon what guages do you have? they look awesome lit up, smokey face or what? i got smokeys but yet to see their shineee
They are Speco scump,i cut the light plug off the back, went to the wreckers and got a couple of the globe holders they put in cigarette lighter fittings, and put blue led globes in to suit, they look pretty trick at night, thats for sure lol
