Prep work can be extremely variable I'll admit, i.e they sand blast it back and "oops we found some rust and a big ass dent from prior bodywork" and shit like that. That's where prep work costs really jump up... 3k sounds about right, some places will vary. If a shop has pulled a VG30 before then an engine out paint job is going to cost less than someone who has never done one ever for example. I am also not counting super duper expensive paint as mentioned above, as that will obviously bump up costs extremely. Most of those multi-layer, mult-color, metal flake paint jobs look really shit in my opinion anyway and they're almost always on the crappiest of cars where the paint job is worth more than the car itself! lol
1600 sounds way too cheap, maybe that was in housepaint ,for all that work,i would expect double that, you may want to check out previous jobs of theirs first trav
ahh, the 3 layers 1st layer salmon 2nd layer pearl red 3rd layer clear $5000 no engine bay.... but body wasnt in the best of shape..... + welded spoiler holes
would be interested to know what "kaos z" paid for his recent paint job in warwick .. one of the classiest, professional jobs i have seen ...
well i had 2 guys work full time on my car for around 6 weeks including saturdays and overtime, mind you they had to pretty much rebuild the car when putting on the body kit, dunno how many coats of undercoat, 2 coats of custom mix paint and i think 3 coats of clear, fit lambo doors, align, modify then take them off again, not to mention all the modifications to the actual bodykit cause it didn't fit properly, no engine bay ... total cost $10k thats how it looked half way through
im sorry but dead honestly, id tell em to get fkd!!!!!!!!! :bash: :bash: 10k?!!?! unless the car was in an accident seriously.. 10k?!!? wtf!!!
My last car (a classic EH Holden) Cost $7k inside and out with new windscreen, rubbers and a fair bit of panel work. The paint products alone totalled approx $2K just sitting there in tins..... You get what you pay for. I would expect no less than $4k to paint a 300ZX and more if you wanted extra stuff like modified front bars etc... Note: If you get a respray and do not remove the glass, you are doing yourself an injustice. This all costs money.
When it comes to paint jobs there is no easy way to do it right. If you pay $1600 you will get just what you payed for(a coat of paint over your old paint job). A good paint job will cost anywhere from 5000 up. To do it right you really have to prep the body more than anything and that is where the money goes. Yeah there are guys out there that offer the 1G paint job but "OH Mister Hart what a mess" Save your money and get it done right the first time ........
May be steep BUT Seeing the blue beast in the flesh, was worth every cent, can't fault the paint work
