I never said "heaps" more, but it will increase. Aslong as everyone keeps ricing out their Z's like they have been then the real fine examples will definately be worth good coin in a decade or so lol The Z32 is quite common so the value wont increase until those numbers start to thin out some. I guess I'm lucky with only 200 series II Z31's to ever land in Australia!
On the topic of the value of a 'matched' engine on a classic car, I know that some classics can be worth $30k+ more with the original engine. (have a look into American muscle cars around 1970 ish) But I seriously doubt that will be the case for Zeds at least for another 20yrs anyway. So in the mean time, enjoy the car because I seriously doubt whether anyone will still have their car in 10yrs let alone 20yrs....
Yeah thats true I had a 1969 MG convertible with its original carby engine adn original box and gauges it was restored when I bought the car but several years before hand. I picked it up for a good price years ago. When I sold the car I was told by the buyer a keen MG enthusiast that if it had the original wheels I could have asked for soem 5 or 6 k more as it would have been 100% complete. It had MG wheels but off a 67 car. So if that rings true with the MG produced in 67 an 69 etc we have around 20 years to wait until the zeds reach that classic status. Damn thats a long time I dont think any VG30dett will last that long unless it was purchased new and locked up for 30 years sad but true lack of maintenance and upkeep kills Z32's resale wise
Yeah, sadly due to seeing them every damn day! The latest "fad" is riced out utes and it's just plain funny lol They think they're Mexican gangsters...
What exactly are you thinking you can match numbers too anyway? AFAIK there is no record of chassis number with original engine number for a Z32 in any case. So you can have any engine in it and as long as it matches the rego label. No one can tell ANYTHING. This extra value thing if the engine is original, is rubbish. No one knows what the original engine number is/was in each chassis.
Silly Grahame. You just ring Hiroshima, Nagasaki or Tokyo(Kyoto is probably a bit too old), and speak to Fuji. He has a complete list of every Z32 ever built, and can give you an immediate answer. How the Hell do owners of Jspec cars get this important info, and more importantly, how do they prove the authenticity of that info, given that owners of most Z32 imports can't even be certain of the Service History or Speedo Readings prior to Australian delivery? I know these things because I am old and grey(and very, very wise).:zlove::zlove:
Sorry, You cant be given that information by Vicroads. Actually their data base only goes back 7 years. Dont ask for any info before that as they dont have it. When I went to register the project car. I went to a lot of trouble to get the egine number off the block. Only to discover it was one digit wrong on comliance anyway. Whats number 2 ???
Interesting reading that some of you dont belive that the zed will ever make it onto a collectors list The humble Charger by Chrysler now sells for around the $15,000 mark........... thats about 4 times MORE than what they were worth new ! The 'Bathurst Packs" ( limited editions for racing purposes ) such as the E38, E39, E48, E49, & the E55 will easily fetch well in excess of $150,000. One original E49 sold recently into New Zealand for $185,000au I was offered $100,000 for my E55 ( the 340ci V8 ) about 4 months ago even tho its stripped out and undergoing a huge rebuild from the ground up......(its allready been valued in excess of $190,000 when its finished and is currently insured for $70,000 in its "as is" condition ) Cars we think of as trash now and have that "crappy market value" such as the VB Commodore, are worth what ??? $200 tops ??? When was the last time you actually saw one that was straight , clean, and on the road ? These things ARE the future for collectors, lets face it not all of us are going to get our hands on a GTHO or A9X or even a E55, most of us wont even be able to afford one anyway so as a 'collector' we must lower our sights a bit to a more affordable range. The types of cars that will attract collectors in the future will be the higher luxury level cars that we take for granted now such as the SLE commodores. As people get more "cashed up" they want to re-live their youth by getting what they had as a first car or what their parents had, these are the future collectors and they will be looking for the cars that we now label as shyteboxes or a worthless POS ! As for the ZX being a collectors piece, think of it this way, 1/ there are a LIMITED numbers of these things in Aust 2/ They have and are in a 'class' all of their own 3/ they dont make them any more 4/ they arent owned generaly by the normal person but largely by devoted persons 5/ Maintance costs are far higher than other 'ordinary' cars NOW go back to the bit where I said ..... "As for the ZX being a collectors .......... " & now insert the word "GHTO" where the "ZX" bit is and re- read it ! get the picture ? As for Matching engine numbers etc etc etc, a true collector will be looking for those types of things and the car will be valued higher if the numbers all match as per the manafactures plates, my 1939 WL Harley wouldnt be worth much if all the bits didnt match up, the same would apply to my 1956 DS5 Yammy, a bike that Yamaha desperately wants but arent yet prepared to spend the amout I'm demanding ..... how does one value the ONLY one left in the world ....... with a very big number The ZX will be a harder car to source as a collectors car compared to a Skyline thats for sure, and its that availibility that will se it be valued much higher than most. Only problem is that you'll have to wait another 30 odd years to make some real money ! Things I regret..... Selling my Charger Sportsman for $4500 ( 24 years ago) Selling my E49 Charger for $8000 ( 20 years ago ):bash: Selling my GT XA falcon for $3000 ( 18 years ago ):bash: Selling my Brock Commodore DOH DOH DOH !!! note to self: YOU STUPID IDIOT :bash: Oh well ....... live n learn Kingy
$190,000 e55 ,interesting ,got some progress pix of it ???? im just thankful, you didnt mention "leyland p76"
PM sent Ah the Leyland P76............ POS ! BUT..... the Force 7V ( Leylands P76 coupe made to compete against the torana / XA coupes & Chargers ) which was never released is worth a mint, only a few were ever made. Good luck finding one !!!
This is the sort of thing I'm talking about...... An ordinary Charger thats been dressed u to look like the RT (road / track pack which is what the E38 - E55's were )....... Current bid $30,100, ...... 37 bids so far...... for a CHARGER !!! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Charger-VH-V...5QQihZ004QQcategoryZ96712QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem This one's just been listed..... 9 days to go, 3 bids so far, and its at $4500 allready ! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Chrysler-Val...7QQihZ001QQcategoryZ96712QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Yeah they are ONLY old Chargers, BUT.... one day they be "only old Zeds" ! Kingy
Well, in the long run, it is not only going to be the engine number that decides the originality. All the bling, lowering, turbo's, fmic's, bow's etc are seriously going to hurt the value of the car. Spend $1000 on 'upgrades' and it will take $1000 of it's future value. But at least those are easier to rectify.
OK, I'll take it. But seriously, even today, if a car is fully stock, you at least know more what to expect. A highly modified car may well be what you want, but it may be very hard to check that the mods are properly done. And more likely, some of the mods will be exactly the opposite to what you want.
to be honest i dont care what the resale on my z is as i know that i will never get back what ive spent. But in saying that i dont regret spending a cent on as i have done all the mods for me and not to make money or save money
Me too. I have no intention of selling. If it doesn't run, I can always sneak out into the garage, sit in the car and turn on the radio LOUD with a nice glass of wine in my hand.
