Thinking about installing a couple of EGT gauges. Can the temperature sensors for the cat overheat system be used to run a temperature gauge? Are they standard K type thermocouples? Has anyone done this? Datzboy
Cause its the shite Simon Not sure about using the Cat probes???? I will be using this badboy in my new engine Its an aerospace grade 6 probe EGT kit with K series probes but Metal sheathed probes ratehr than the tradiational ceramic tipped ones as they have a tendancy to break down and eat turbos. 1 probe will be fitted to each runner on the exhaust manifold so we can fine tune each cylinder to ensure optimum fueling conditions are met to maximise safe power output
i run one on my race kart ,i was just interested in why he would want to put it on a street car i know why u run it on your mean mother of a beast
Oh yeah, mmm go kart too I am envious Gotta keep a check on all that nitrous running through the engine I luve it sooooo sweettt!!!
hmm sounds sweet if it dose give you better preformance by all means mate do it, if you got that kinda cash to blow why not, right? but also who put it on a street car, or are you gona use it for track purposes or just day to day driving?. dose it work on any car or just preformance cars? how much do one of those things cost ruffly? Regards shaun
i think you'll need the egt as close to the engine as possible, probably ruling out cat sensors, where gas temps will have significantly dropped.
Why Good to tell if fuel system not coping when you turn the boost up. The sensors are there already. Why not use them if I can. The temps will be lower after the turbos, but should still give an indication of too much heat if running lean. In the future I'd like to add a small shot of nitrous to spool up the turbos. Datzboy
I was also thinking about converting the stock sensors, but yes they are much too far back. I suppose you could call the EGT gauge the opposite of the AFR guage. Sort of measures the same thing, but with a different output.
The sensors are there already??? Where? I wasn't aware of zeds having EGT sensors...O2 sensors yes, but very, very different pieces of equipment.
Cat sensors There are temperature sensors in the cats, they measure the temps in the cat and operate a warning light on the dash. I'm not using them at the moment. I was wondering if I can mount them further forward somewhere behind the turbos and use them to run a temp gauge.
And another thing I'm not sure t he type of thermocouples that Nissan used. They could be the linear-measure-lots-of-different-temperature ones or the ohh!-it's-too-hot switch ones.
Cat temp sensors are the oh-shit-its-too-hot type ones. They don't give a progressive reading. And the temperature at which it says oh-shit, is too low to be of any real use to tuning or AFR determination.
