Running Rough as........

Ok people, have got one for ya. Car: 89 TT 5sp, fr mount, pod, dumps etc

Went to go for a drive on Saturday night and car started up fine, sounded a bit different though, as if it was miss firing just a little? After warming up a bit took her out. Things I noticed:

When at low revs and little gas applied, few splutters, as if O2 sensors were on way out.

Car lets out little backfires here and there when no throttle applied e.g 4th gear 60km/h

Had the O2's replaced 8,000 cliks ago with ngk's (i think) CAZ ones.

Car has been bypassed
Hopefully this is enough info to rule out a few things.
If not....... ask away.

I just need an idea, so maybe have an understanding so mechanic doesn't sounnd foriegn.

Another one while your there,,,

with the engine running pull a coil plug to see if anything changes,

put it back on, then do the next one..

If you get to one where nothing changes, that is the culprit..

Clean and do all again to see if they all work..


After cleaning, if it still dont work, you may need to swap coils around to see if thats the problem..

 

Yeah, check for loose coilpack connectors.

 

Yeah sounds like a coil pack or injector connector, also clean Coolant temp sensor and sender connections

 

can also be CAS and PTU connectors.

 

YES PTU the cause of my No 6 cylinder not firing was dodgy PTU connections..
