    Hi,

Finally back in Dubbo today and decided to starting doing some work to the Z (now that I have it back...woohoo) and started to wonder if I can permanently remove some parts. I'm assuming these parts are only used by the factory air filter.

    In this pic:

See the two plastic pipes on either side of the BOV's that head off under the headlights? They just seem to go to either side of the car and point up towards the guards.

Do they do anything once the factory filter has been relieved of its duties? Just one more thing in the way, that I will remove if it?s not needed.

    Cheers

yes u can remove them, they are the old air ducts that connect to the original airbox, throw them into the recycle bin lol ;)Actually its better to keep them in case u get a defect and have to put the original airbox back on

    Thanks for that.

Can't reuse them anyway. Both my previous Z and my current one arrived with the factory airbox already replaced....saved me the trouble of chucking it out :)

They can be a pain to remove, I think I had to have my front bar off to get them out...

No ya dont, You just grab the bastards in both hands and pull hard. The first part just unplugs.

Then you have to undo one bolt to pull the second inlet part from under the guard after you undo the under body protector under the bar.

LOL Renzed freaked when I got stuck into pulling them from her car at a tech day. ripped the crap out of em :D

another point is that now they are loosely attached in there

not really properly held in by anything they could cause a small rattle or noise when driving, would be annoying....plus you remove about 200grams per side of weight from the car(yay...lol...who cares but still)
just take them out i think, most of the guys i can think of have them removed over here in wa....

I removed them ages ago when I had the front off...

They are just a waste of space, and aren't doing anything if you are not running the stock air box. Once unscrewed, you just need to use some force to get out :)

    Water catchers?

I was looking at mine today and wondering the same thing because I was worried that they could fill with water over time perhaps???

    Shouldn't fill with water

It shouldn't have a chance to fill with water. They stay horizontal until the edge of the car and then point up towards the guard....not much chance for water to get in there.

But mine are gone now anyway. Heaps more room now that the SMIC?s are gone and this piping as well.

    Cheers

I tried removing mine the other day. The driver side one came out relatively easily but the passenger side one seems to be stuck like a mofo. Are you meant to unscrew something first or is the bastard thing just randomly caught on something?

Mine were a bit of a bastard

Mine were a bit of a bastard to remove, but they weren't screwed in. Just kept getting caught. Just swear at the bastards, find that tends to help :)

Believe me in that I already tried swearing at the thing but it didn't seem to help. I'll give it another go next time I feel like unleashing some pent up frustration.

I was just thinking about this

and I have a feeling my drivers side, was the bastard one, not the other.

I had to really force it through to get it out of there. The part that kept getting caught was the flexible part (with the ribs) right near where they join. The ribs kept getting caught. I also had already removed my SMIC so that probably made it a bit easier.

Fuel and a match would also get it out of there....:D (the Z makes me feel that way towards it a lot).

    Cheers

Yeah, there are many times I feel like putting a hammer to the Z. It's a love/hate relationship.:zlove:

I ended up taking my headlights out and cutting the ducts in half because they were being a bitch to just pull out
