Now, I thought this would make an excellent comparo.

Ild say on that track the Z32 would have it.
    What say you(s)?

350Z, assuming the track didn't have a long straight and both cars were factory spec. The newer car is just more agile.

it would have more chance against the earlier 350s
but remember they make a 350z "track" for a reason lol.
suspension is far more developed than a z32

It would be a close contest IMHO....

assuming they are both stock. If the 350 is the track pack version it would probably swing in it's favour.

While in the USA at the moment, i hired a 350z for 4 days, drove 480miles and the whole feel and balance is tighter, as for stock on stock i wouldn't turn your back on the 350 and there good for a easy 130mph, and it dosen,t feel that fast in it.

im pretty sure they have done the comparison of these two on top gear?? plus you have to remember the 300zx is getting on and you cant really compare stock to stock any more unless you have the money to buy all brand new parts from nissan.

    Got both.... the answer is...

    Daughter has a 300zx TT.

    Wife has a 350z.

Standing start, 300 metre dash.... 350 would win. Quick off the mark. Auto

Standing start, say....500 metre.... 300zxTT. Top end punch is more.

Race track..... 350 will wipe the floor with the 300zxTT.

what's the problem with the zed? heavy block?

when you go to the aftermarket suspension components in the zed, is the 350z suspension setup still better? is it in the dna?

    Performance figures?

There have to be road test figures around that would answer the acceleration question.

As to the rest, I drove a 350Z around QR for a few laps, shortly after they were released. Quite unimpressive, the front outside would dip down in a corner, probably improved a bit since then though.

how about bare bones vs bare bones

89' 2 seater slicktop tt manual vs 02' 350z normal version

and this is presuming they have both got under 20,000km on both models.. i think the 300zx would come out on top..

thing is.. all you need to do the 300zx is a few basic bolt on's for under $2500, then coilovers and strut braces and you've got yourself a wicked cornering machine that is gonna chew up the straights..

spend equal amount of dosh on the 350z and your gonna get eaten alive by the 300zx

lol yeah the stigg is "a man of few words"
    interesting about the
    and
because the 1/4mile times have the 300ZX way ahead.

Anyway a standing start does apply in this specific question, they all race a standing start. but i was more about best flying lap times.

Shame, i thing the 350Z is awesome, MOTOR/Wheels got it around a race track faster than a WRX and Monaro so its a bit ok. But ild like to see a stock 300ZX against a 350Z, its interesting.

Wow, someone found something I said so interesting that they started a whole thread about it.

Personally, although I have some love for the 350z, I find it a bit sad that it took Nissan 18 years to produce a Z32 successor that merely matches its stock performance (TT). Z32TT were the pinnacle of performance and design for their time, whereas the Z33 is pathetically tame in comparison. And we all know how much easier it is to pull extra horses out of our aging beasts.

I think its worthwhile pointing out that at the Nationals, Don Hill's stock 350Z Track put down a faster lap than all the Z32's except for JP and Fleet, both of whom have highly modded Zeds.

Don't get me wrong, I would always have a Z32 over a Z33, but people shouldn't underestimate the potential of a 350Z. Their engineering is 14 years more modern.

Maybe circuit unfamiliarity of the Z32 boys had something to do with that, keep in mind also that Don Hill only came 23rd outright. Beaten by quite a few NA road type cars too.

    350z wins...

You've answered your question with that quote really.

If the 350Z was faster around a track than a new WRX and new Monaro, no way the 300zx will keep up.

Stock for stock the power is the same but I think the 300zx has more torque. However, the suspension and braking setup on the 350z is far more advanced which is to be expected. I think the 350z is slightly lighter as well? Have to check the stats...

But no doubt the 350z will be faster. Even against a newish '99 model 300zx.

BUT...at the end of the day the 300zx will always have one thing over the 350z... Boost Baby...Boost...

    Cheers
    Rob.
