every time im stopped at the traffic lights (i have an auto, so in D with foot on brake) my car starts to vibrate really badly....i can hear the plastic rattling in the car.....this all starts when my revs drop to around 500 from just over 1200 at first.... at the queensland tech day mark (zed4life) was saying my number 2 cylinder was missing and showed me how the engine vibrates and said its nothing bad but i might just need to get my injectors cleaned..... i have forgotten the exact details but would this be the reason every time im at the lights my car starts to rattle????? its getting very annoying thanks fellas
It's very difficult to diagnose a problem by mail, however, if Mark told you that one cylinder is cutting out at low rpm, then that would certainly contribute to serious vibration at 500 rpm. At those low revs, most engines with all cylinders firing would be very close to stalling. It would be much more pronounced with only 5 cylinders working, hence the vibration.
I don't think it's normal for the car to be idling as low as 500rpm. I'd imagine that a 500rpm idle in itself would cause quite a shake even if nothing else is wrong. Check the "curing erratic idle" stuff in the tech section.
Well, you know that you have a problem with no 2 cylinder not firing, so why not start by fixing it ? Electrical, fuel or mechanical. Do you have spark ? Does the plug work ? Do you have injector signal ? Does the injector work ? Do you have compression ? Did you wash and polish the car ? Be methodical. Not much point in meditating at every red light.
next time your at the lights, pop her into neutral. notice the idle rpm go up or down and see if she continues to shake.
which one? mark showed me how to clean the six connectors and now my car runs smoother but that wasnt the reason. we also cleaned the ptu as well
