I'm just wondering, what's the punishment if you get caught driving a prohibited vehicle i.e. a turbo zed on your p plates. I know a couple of people who do it and they haven't lost their licenses...yet.

not sure about nsw but in vic if you drive a car over the power to weight ratio it was only like a slap on the wrist. $100 fine and no points.

With the new laws coming in soon if you get your licence when the whole green p thing comes out in vic i heard the fines are gonna be over $600.

that green p thing will only start wit people who are goin to get thier P's...but people who already have it wont have to go under that rule with the green p's...well thats what i heard...also u cant tell if a zx is turbo or not by looking at it...like cops need to know wat to look for...but if you do get caught i know its just a fine but no points

yep i know that. But yeah they can tell when my zed is turbo becuase i have a massive front mount sittin at the front. even though it still says my car has an na engine. when i had the sidemounts i got away with saying it was an na.

anyway sorry we cant help you coz you are in nsw zxdevil.

I was thinking that, unless you get a cop who knows what to look for, its pretty difficult for them to tell if its a turbo...unless they start poking around under the hood or you go past them at 100 k's over the speed limit.

if you take off the plate that says twin turbo on the plenum you could get away with it 90% of the time reckon.

Thats what i've been thinking, though there is the 10% chance that the cop sees the VG30DETT on the plate.

Yep! That sounds about right(there's no chance the cop wil see the 4 hoses/hardpipes from the IC's and Throttle Bodies, now is there?):p:p:p:rolleyes::rolleyes:

haha yeah that is also true. but what are the chances they will know? unless you get pulled over by highway patrol then your done.

which reminds me friday night a highway patrol was cruising next to me in an 80 zone. i dropped speed to about 75 and he dropped too. dropped to 70 he dropped to 70. which reminds me, dont act sus by slowing down! lol

Princess Highway's a nightmare now. So many unmarked cars in between dandy and caulfield, especially around chaddy.

I've heard that the new P-plater laws in Vic don't apply to us P-platers who already have our licences but the new penalties for driving over our power to weight ratios do apply. It's something like upto a $1100 fine and 3 demerits. Lucky mines an NA 4 seater so I won't be getting over the power to weight ratio of 125kW/tonne anytime soon.

I reckon a cop could tell if you were driving a TT, they'd be able to hear the sound of the Turbo's if they got you to rev it.

Wouldnt the cars be registered at twin turbo in their database?

Well depends on what cops you get

I was pulled over because some young cop "supposedly" heard an air venting noise coming from my car. Once pulled over the cops asked me to open my bonnet, while doing so i asked for the legallity of the check since my car had all the proper rego and import doc's and stickers so do the cops re-check most of the RTA's work ???
The older cop, looked like a sgt as he had 3 chevrons, told the younger cop not to waste his time as this car was not a turbo. Go figure i guess the big twin turbo badge across the throttle cable covers just didn't give it away. Not that i would have gotten a tickeet as i have re-circs on, but just the same i wasn't going to point out how stupid he was when they were letting me go... so yeah i guess you'd expect cops to know something about cars, but the way they book people you'd swear they've never seen a car before, so how you expect them to recognise an inter-cooler or throttle bodies is beyond my comprehension, especially since i had a cop try to book me for having my fogs on in non inclement weather when i didn't even have any fogs installed on the car, when the car was first painted, they lost my fog lights and were in the processes of buying new ones... i didn't have any on the car, you all noticed that the first cruise i came too ??? GO FIGURE :)

I guess it depends on who pulls you over. If you just get a normal policemen you might be lucky but a Highway patrol or TMU officer will be able to pick out the main things like external venting BOV's or FMIC and POD etc because they deal with these kinds of things every day.

    A few things to note.....

Dont drive a TT on ur Pz when ur not supposed to......besides getting away there are other issues at stake.....incl if u accidently hit a ferrari or a person on the road ur not covered and could have to pay it back all ur life...

better is to make up something decent for exemption.....

yes i think the z32 most cops cant tell, take off the TT badge and if uve got SMIC then its all good.......and yeh lucky the airfilter is hidden aswell.....

its alot harsher in nsw....huge fine, long suspension.........trust me 3 years on a non-turbo will go quick, but a suspension wont.....

    my 2 cents

The real question is what are the insurance companies going to do to you if you hit and write off a $100,000+ merc ?`

Yes i realise this which is why i'm aiming to get an NA, driving a TT on P's is more of a risk than its worth, but i was just wondering as to how the police could tell the difference and what the punishment actually is.

I have to agree with Stef, people are missing the point.Who cares if the cops know or not,the real question is what are you going to do when u claim after an accident, and being on p's you will be claiming whether its your fault or not:eek: ;) ;) ;) ;)
