Hey guys, im a newbie here first of all i gotta say this is a wonderful forum , the tech link really helped me alot broaden my knowledge on the car. Im actually looking to buy a 300zx twin turbo in sydney, ive come across a coupe, but then im a little curious about the car. i was wondering would anyone know of any good mechanics that i could take these cars to have a look before carrying forward wit the deal. And if u know of any good 300zx going for around 8 to 10 grand please inform me as im really interested in the car. Thanks

To find a really good one you should be looking at the $12-14K mark. Unique Auto Sports is a reputable 300ZX workshop in Sydney who may perform a pre purchase inspection.

Keep a watch in the For Sale Section of this forum for others.

Agreed, spend a little more and save money in the long run. A cheap Z is false economy!

It wont really matter either way, the mod bug bites and all your money dissapears :D

    I second that, and...

I bought a TT coupe for 8k, then spent 7k in the garage. At least now I know the car is good to drive now but it could've been worse.

Yeah learn as much as you can on the tech section, and get it checked at UAS they know these cars real well. Actually they have a couple for sale for reasonable money.

When you get yours really go easy on it, listen / smell / feel etc for anything amiss till youre 100% about it. There are some things to be aware of asap like properly bleeding the cooling system, avoiding throttle jam, checking/bypassing detonation sensor, 100k service, etc...

I dont mean to scare you, the 300's are awesome. Just remember that as a supercar they demand all due care & respect.
There will never be cars like these again, enjoy while the gettings good!

Agree, take your time and find a good one. Once you find it spend your money on making it better. Don't fall in the trap of spending your money on bling or performance upgrades before you sorted out all the problems you will have inherited on your 15+ years old car. If you are really lucky and did your homework well, there may not be much to spend, but most likely there will be a few grand to spend on maintenance (which is vital)

i have now found that for a zed to be good you need to spend around 15k, whether that is directly in the purchase price or in the near future on maintaniance and repairs, you mihgt be lucky and get a good one at that price but yeah. deffinately get someon who knows their stuff to check it out for you, dont know of anyone in sydney though...
