    Hi,

Well I am in the process of re-trimming some of my interiour panels. Got the vinyl and stuff ok and was told to get some clear spray adhesive, so went to bunnings and got their most expensive spray adhesive "Fullers" @ $15 a can!

Cut the vinyl pieces to match the old ones i took off. Cleaned off the excess goo and sprayed like half a can onto the plastic and vinyl backing. Problem, you'd be lucky to stick paper to paper with this stuff yet the label says ok for vinyl, plastic etc.....

Anyway to my question after some further research I think that contact cement is the way to go. Is there a brand that is better than the rest?

Does this stuff dry clear (not that you'll see the stuck side) and is it hard to apply?

Does anyone know if there is an auto trimmer outlet shop on the Gold Coast that sells this stuff to the public?

    Thanks to all in advance!!

Seconded, I will be undertaking this task soon as well, and so need this advice.

I know Miksta has re-done his re-tirm recently, and it looked pretty good, so hopefully he will jump in and let us know what he used.

BTW, what did you guys use to clean the old glue and crud off?

    I used

This stuff I got called goo remover, it used to be made by Big Kev's!! I think the brand is called oomph. I just used that and lots of elbow grease and a scraper. Was a bit of a mission getting the old stuff off but you'll get there!!!

If you have a 2+2 the rear side panels have these white clips that tend to be brittle and break when you take them out so just be careful. The next thing I want to do is my targa tops.

Oomph? Sweet! I still have most of mine that I used to clean up the glue that was on my dash from installing the guage rings.

    In the process...

    Hey Mate,

I'm in the process of doing it now. :)

When I first started I thought the same thing...this stuff doesn't hold!

Then I read the label on the can...lol...

Basically, you spray it on both surfaces, then leave it for a good 5 - 10 mins. Come back and it will be "tacky". Meaning, it wont be dry but it will hold while you can manipulate the material. It wont dry completely for a while...so you might have to keep a bit of pressure on it for some time.

Once it's tacky, it holds well.

Glove box is a bitch. :)

Oh by the way...how do you remove the small piece next to the glove box and the door? I couldn't see any screws...???

    Cheers
    Rob.

Been through all this before, but I spent hours removing the old fabric, scrubbing with turps & scourer, had every bit immaculate ready for replacement and the upholsterer just shook his head, said I hadn't done myself any favours, sent me home to get all the old stuff, which he glued back on as a base for the new vinyl, charged $300 for the lot and looks terriffic
