Hi guys, is it possible to fix scratches such as these: They are off the bonnet of my zed, the scratches are from my cat and they are bloody deep I think too deep for a wax & polish to hide, but I may be wrong, as every time I have tried to wax I do a crap job Also, upon seeing these scratches, I did a very close inspection of the rest of the car. It looks like my two cats have been playing chasy over my Z as there are small scratches and paw prints all over the paint Any ideas? Apart from skinning the cats and using the scalps to wax the Zed? Can I reasonably expect a good wax to cover this shit? I have Meguiars Tech Extreme Wax. Or do I need a respray? The biggest scratches are the ones pictured, and you can actually FEEL them with your finger On a side note, I have seen one of the cats sharpening her claws on my gf's civics tyres I was thinking of getting a car cover, but I figured that that would make it more appealing to the cats, ie nice fabric to scratch
if they are that deep you might need to hit it with a buff and cut and polish... then hit the cat with the car. or was 'the cat' the 'pussy' i saw you were dragging out of the dean on sat night and putting in the back of your car passout lol
Ha ha, I threw out a few females with attitude probs on Sat, but none of them on the back seat of the Z, as I dont take it to work since the "incident". I now soley get there on my bicycle (or I scab a lift). I dont think any chikas would appreciate me saying "cue sleazy voice" lets go for a ride honey, do you want to sit on the handlebars or the bike frame? Some how I just dont see that working
buy a tandem bike... make the bitch work for it hahaha anyway, hit it with abuff and see how much comes out, otherwise you might need to repaint
I have the same problem damn cats! The little shit seems to love sleeping on the Zed, there are a number of scratch marks where she has tried either climbing up or down but with no luck on the slick surface . Lucky for me my scratches arent quite as deeply etched and have come out with a good cut and polish.
I have repaired some scratches like that with a product called scratch ex and from memory it comes with a lipstick type thing that matches the colour of your car for deeper scratches. You rub this stuff into the scratch then buff it off. You can still notice it close up but from 1 meter away looks gone. Cheaper fix than a paint job
Scratch X huh? Yeah I think I've seen it at supercheap before, I might give it a try. My only point of contention is that I recently purchased a front bar (2nd hand), and will need that painted, as well as some BX sideskirts. My rear bar also needs a respray, due to some paint that is chipped off (was there when I bought it). So now we have: front bar, rear bar, side skirts all needing a coat of paint. I am thinking that just getting those painted would look a little funny, as then we would have the rest of the car with older & scratched paint. The most logical solution would be to respray the whole car? Too bad my wallet might not agree My boss needs to hurry up with my damn bonus, was supposed to get it too me over a month ago
scratch x will not get them out... they are too deep you can see the primer... One way to do it is to hit it with some wet and dry something like 1200 1500 but try not to rub all the way though to the primer or to metal hehe do it wet then blow on it and wipe away the water and blow again and see what it looks like... As long as you dont rub though the clear it should be fine... You will have to do the whole bonnet then as you will notice the difference from that section to the rest of the bonnet... If you dont wish to rub back you can always use a heavy cutting pad to help hide them more... Hit it with the machine buff good pad and some good cutting compound... It should help in trying to hide deep scratches like that... Use a polish that has a swirl remover in it to get rid of the swirl marks as they do show up more on dark coloured cars then light and lay down your wax or what ever you like and that should be about it... Also remember to use water while cutting and polishing dont want to burn the paintwork... Remember cut on a higher speed say like 2 and polish on 1... Might take a while but better then eating your paintwork up...
but if the scratch is through to the primer, cutting it back will make no difference... the idea of cut and polish is to take a layer off the top and sort of fill in other bits with that layer.... sorta... so uill just be filling the crack with clear coat
Ok, but I'm not sure that my detailing skills are exactly up to scratch I still have funny white marks that I cant seem to buff out from the last time I waxed the beast
You can cut scratches that are that deep to make them not look like that... You are trying to cover up deep scratches thats all you are doing... Have you felt the scratch with your finger nail at all?? Has a lip if so you can cut it back so it is flat... What you can do is fill the scratch with touch up paint then you can cut it back so its nice and flat... Thats another way of doing it... You will not be able to remove scratches like that you can only mask them in other words you can hide it but if you know what your looking for you will find them... What kind of white marks do you have? Is it a build up of wax or no? Have you tryed some paint cleaner that gets rid of wax and polish from the car then you can start all over again... Hope it has not gone too far and cut all the clear off and its the paint showing... If it is will hehe new paint for you then... Red car's haze the most if not kepted in good nick dont take long and it leaves like a white powder behind... Which needs to be cut back to make it go away but also if the paint is not the best even when cutting it can not help but haze the paint work if there is no clear left...
Thanks for the advice Zanjarra. The white haze definately looks like a wax build up, only visible from cirtain angles on cirtain panels, and I can spread it out further if I rub it with a cloth, I just cant seem to make it go away
I think that means you put too much wax on when you detailed it last time. I did the same thing the first time I detailed my parents cars. Takes for ever to get all the wax off.
Yeah i would say its a build up of wax... Best thing to do is leave it int he sun for like 10 15 mins as it will melt the wax abit then you can remove the excess wax build up in them places and get it in other areas that are in need of the wax...
your photos dont work but if the scratches dont go through the clear coat.. (unless you know for sure as its pretty hard to tell if you dun know what your looking for) you can hide them with scratchex.. comes in a bottle and is not the same colour as your car.,. it works by rounding off the hard corners of s scratch and you cannot see them unless looking closely at the right angle i have a new fourby that i like to get dirty.. she gets scratched all the time by branches n trees.. but whens shes back at work she looks like a brand new car again.. if i ever get a scratch so deep it goes through the clear or dent her i will have to fix it.. because she is all about corporate image during the week.. but otherwise.. ill keep the scratchex handy. and the polish.. and the wax.. hehe
