i agree that there are douche bag p platers bbut they stick to commonwhores or skylines far more than they do the zed. theres just something about the 300, she seduces and demands pampering from everyone:p

I imported mine in March 2005, paid $9500 delivered to my door in June plus rego, never have had a problem with it. Although I have spent that much on it again, not one cent of it was for something that has failed.

Apart from the obvious extra costs of an overhead cam engine with associated costs of replacing the belt and idler pulley's, personally I don't find the Zed any more expensive to maintain than a locally built car. Realistically, I think the maintenance costs are quite comparable to any car that is over 15 years, and mine is 17 years  Go try and and maintain some european exotic like a Porsche or BMW, then you'll know what expensive is.

Good idea mate, I might start a thread like that now :D

I had been looking at Zeds for over 12 months and had basically given up when mine came along.

1991 1 owner, low kms with full dealer history. Some real hard bargaining and I got it.:)

I was prepared to pay top dollar if I had to for a VERY GOOD example and this is!

I've owned alot of cars over the years (I'm giving away my age now) but I will always pay top dollar for the best example of a particular model that I want.

On average most of the cars that I have owned have been 10 + years old and in some cases hitting the 'classic' age bracket. Cars like XE ESP 5.8 Falcon, HDT VC Commodore, LE Monaro, SV 5000, HX - WB Statesman Caprices etc, etc, etc.

I've never had problems selling any of them as they have always been maintained and looked after to the highest standard and an enthusiast will always look for the best example they can find.

As for the ZX, my own view is that it is an underated car (not by us on this forum). I think that its looks caputure the Ferrari feel with the auora of a sportscar.

I recently took my car to work (I have a work car) to show some of the guys in the office .... the feeling was 'wow' and 'nice' .... and in one case 'is that the new Austin martin?' ....

You will NEVER get your money back on a car (unless a Phase 3 XY low Km GT), thats just the way the game is. But by keeping your car in as pristine condition as you can, you can make it easier to sell.

There are some very average Zeds and some excellent examples this is common to all cars. The best examples will always be easier to sell than average/crap ones.

Zeds are in my opinion an enthusiats car. As such the buyer market for our cars is smaller. My friends said for the money you paid for your Zed you could have bought a newer car like a ford or holden  .... been through that .... I wanted something unique and different and with flair .... and that my friends is why we own Zeds ..... :zlove:

Exactly why I bought my Z...

Give it time, the prices will go up.. Daily you see smashed and wrecking Z's so there is less and less...

    Supply and Demand

Previously I had been looking for a XU1 Torana, they have gone from $24k to $65k and one I saw for around $100k...

Not to many of them left...

    There are p-platers and aus300zx p-platers

People that don't loook after their cars are usually not very interested in them.

If you love your zed, you look after it even if you are a p-plater. You would also very likely be on this forum.

Charles Darwin, natural selection. As the lesser, weaker ones fall away the healthy stronger ones will advance ( in about 15-20 years:D ):zlove: I plan to give mine to my grand-daughter ,she's 8, THAT will be cool:cool:

Exactly, when I got mine I was a P-plater but I adore it :zlove: Practically every dollar I earn goes into it. I added it up the other day was about $9,000

Hopefully, prices will at least firm up

With the supply and demand balance still like a pendulum, prices will always be up/down... At the end of the day, a car is worth what the seller will see for and what the buyer will pay.

Lately, prices don't seem to have dropped. More likely they have firmed up. The chance of securing an 8-10K top condition zed with no maitenance required are getting fewer.

A TT for 8K that has not had the 100K service done, smokey turbos, worn/thrashed drivetrain and insane boost levels will usually cost you dearly the time/money/effort to get it up to scratch. It's false economy... Most see the logic in spending more on a good one to begin with.

Finally, if you are in it for the long haul like many of us on here, we could care less about resale values... Once you get a good one (and you often have to go through a couple to get the right one) you stick to it and nurture it...:zlove:

You'll be happy to know that I am a P Plater and to date I have spent just on 9000 getting the car to the condition I am happy with. Considering I bought the car for 9200 Its alot of money. If you remember one of my early posts where I explained how bad the car was when I first got it (http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=256439 since then its been new wheels because the old ones that came with the car were buckled, new wheel studs because they were bent, new handbrake shoes because I wanted to do motorkhanas, 1 piece tailshaft because the old OEM started vibrating, minor crankshaft repair as it was messing with the rear main seal and I've only had the car for about 3 months and have driven about 3,500 kays) and even though I earn very little money, I just wouldn't be happy driving around in a car that wasn't as close to perfect as possible so I make sacrifices in other areas so that I have money to fix the little things on the car. The cars needs a respray as its got many scratches from its previous owners and thats what I'm saving for next. I won't be happy until its perfect. Not really concerned with spending money on my soundsystem or any visual mods, I'd rather get the mechanicals of the car as close to perfect rather than making it look better.

I have considered selling it but I know I will never get my money back. I doubt that anyone would pay 18,000 for a 90 NA model (if you do want to buy my car for 18,000 let me know... ). The only way it will work out for me is if I keep the car for as long as possible. But I don't like looking at the money any more, rather I think about how much better it drives now that I've spent the money on it.
