Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting one of them fuel regulators fitted in my mates 300. He's already got a Bosch aftermarket one, but he wants to get one with a built in gauge to read the pressure. Initially, I was thinking a little "blonde" and thought it might be better to have a fuel pressure gauge sitting on your dash or A-pillar. But that's a bit suicidal, cause if that pipe leaks inside the cabin, you're pretty much screwed. Anyways, I?ve seen that you can get some regulators with a built-in gauge that neatly sits in the engine bay. I saw one the other day at Autobarn (think the brand was SARD). But it costs over $300!! Is this a normal thing? I mean are they normally this expensive? If any of you know of a place to find one cheaper please let me know. Any help would be much appreciated. Also, while I'm at it, is it a good idea to use second hand regulators? I mean second hand blow off valves are OK, because all there is just a valve and a spring inside it ? so the chances of that stuffing up is quite little if none. But the internals of a fuel regulator may have more gizmos. If anyone has one of these in "good condition" for sale, I would be happy to take it off your hands. Cheers.
welcome to modding performance cars, the price sounds pretty good actually. I would only be able to supply the Sard FPR + an Autometer Fuel Pressure gauge for around that.
Thanks Pete, The SARD pressure sounds tempting. How much exactly would the regulator and the gauge be? Also I?m presuming that the gauge you are talking about is an internal one. So it might not be able to withstand all the heat from the engine.
you can get them with gauges for around $60 on ebay.. whether they're any good, I dunno.. still, I'd just get an electric gauge to put in the cabin, no fuel line needed.
you can get fuel pressure gauges that use an isolator so that no fuel is actually sent inside cabin, or there are electronic alternatives. as far as fuel pressure regulators, check ebay for the sard item, or aeromotive or sx performance.
Why not just add a gauge in the line???? They're only $40 from Autobarn and a few bucks for an adapter... although, not knowing the bosch unit, most have 1/8" NPT gauge ports built in.
Seems to hold pressure (Bosch fuel pump) on dyno runs and my computer tells me my fuel ratios, but the gauge is only a guide for tuners.
Fuel regs For their size Sard are probably the best on the market. We have pulled one appart and they are quality units. Compared to the purple SX ones which are heavy and crude, and not very big ports inside at all and deceiving and I do not recommend them. Malpassie are good but Sard is the pic. I had a Sard one on my car but could not cope and good for up to 400rwkw or so but changed to Magnafuel 4 port which is rated for around 1500hp for not much more and clearly bigger and what serious racers use. Do not be tempted by cheap and nasty and potentially blow up your motor or have fluctuating fuel pressures and unreliable etc.
Hold the phone We just did comp test on slot car after dyno as a check and all good. Although found fuel in the plenum on passenger side. We diagnosed it was coming from the vacuum line going to the reg. So we pulled it appart and appears the nitrile? rubber thin diaphram is starting to perish, and dissaster diverted. May have been some tof the snazzy fuels we have been using. We put one of the new highflow and top quality Turbo Smart Pro Regs on that are immune to all fuels and should be all good. By the way supplier said never had a problem with Magnafuel so od one out. We race we learn and we all win.
See pics I now ahve Turbo Smart Pro Reg which is much more superior diaphram material and design. I am very confident I have best fuel reg on the market now. Had Andrew National Sales Manager, who used to work here, come over and give me the run down. They do their homework well. Maybe the Ethonal fuel out their now is effecting fuel regs as it can do to rubber seals etc. This is pic of the failed one.
