I had my radiator repaired (split in the bottom). It runs fairly well early in the morning without getting too hot, but, in the afternoon driving home from work it is boiling its bloody head off. This has been happening 4 the past 3 days. The radiator was checked & seems 2 be ok. I can,t seem 2 work it out.. Could anyone please explain 2 me why this is happening... All segestions will be well appreciated.. Hope i can get it solved asap be4 it does some real damage... regards skeeter47........

mate, stop driving it or you may be paying for a lot more than just getting the overheating problem fixed, most people on this forum seem to say that if your car boils, could be water pump, thermostat, radiator hoses, any number of things really, you'll have to get them checked one by one, but STOP driving it.
    cheers

yea man stop driving it, mines got bit of a heat problem (hench the irony in the signature) which im hopefully fixing tomorrow, one of the problems that isint really listed on the forums is seeming you have had radiator work done, check to see if they put the lower fan shround back on or you wont be sucking enough air.

i reckonmend checking the waterpump and therostat too though, they seem to be main problems on these cars

checked for any leaks? maybe a loose hose? happened to me after i changed my radiator.. mechanic didnt tighten the clamps p enough and it was leaking ever so slightly.. could hardly see unless i didnt drive the car for 3 days there was a tiny puddle under the drivers side... jacked it up and tightened all the clamps and now its all sweet.. hopefully its as something as simple as that

    Did you blead it

when you put the raidator back in? Because if you don't get all the air out you'll get an air lock which will also cause it to overheat.

I've just been through massive dramas with a similar problem. First off i'd go to a radiator specialist and they can do a pressure test probly for free while you wait, and this will give you a good starting point. They can also do a chemical analysis on your water to check for a head gasket leak, this is probly the most unlikely cause though, but a possability. I intended to get one done but the bloke seemed to know what he was doing and said I didn't need one and turns out he was right.

Was your radiator serviced when it was repaired?
My problem started with a 3mm split in my top water hose but led on to other problems. I pretty much replaced everything to fix my overheating (pump, thermostat, both hoses, radiator service) but in the end I think the water pump was the main culprit, even though the one I removed looked visually fine.

The last thing is like someone else said, it's very to get air trapped int he system, I recommend parking the car facing up a reasonably steep hill or jack it up or ramps etc, then fill it up as much as you can, then start car with heater on full. Then keep topping the water up as it drops. After a few mins your thermostat should open and then it will probly take quite a bit more water.

I hope this helps. I know first hand what a pain in the ass it is.

    Ben

PS, what everyone else said, dont drive it very far like it is, hopefully you have a radiator place close to you. Mine was only about 2 klms luckily.
