I decided to ask a few friends who own Skylines to come along, because I wasn’t sure how many Zeds were going to turn up. Well my mate in his R34 was suppose to meet me at my place at 12, as the cruise meeting time was between 12:00 – 12:30. So my mate turns up at 12:10, & we head off straight away. Get a call halfway there, asking where I am. Anyway, I turn up to the meeting point at almost 12:30… & I couldn’t believe the amount of cars waiting there! There were Zeds, plenty of Skylines, GTiR, Supra, MR2 & a fast BMW (Oh, how could I forget Franz in the rental commodore!).
It got a little messy as we left the meeting point. We had cars going every which way. A few people got lost at the very beginning. Anyway, after plenty of phone calls, & trying to work out whether we were in front or behind the pack we all met at a small local pub. A few pics were taken & off we went to the next stopping point.
Some of the roads were narrow & bumpy, & with a low Supra in front of us, going was slow (I know Franz didn’t have issues with clearance in his Commy).
Next stop was the petrol station so people could fuel up for the best stretch of road ahead, the Cygnet run. The Skyline boys were first to leave, but we passed them all on the side of the road as they had been waved down by a police officer. There was more confusion on the way to the Cygnet route, with cars pulling over all the time. So I decided to lead the way (I hate being first) & we made it to the turn off to Cygnet. This would have to be one of my most favourite roads. The road surface is smooth, tight corners, and the speed limit is 100kph the whole way.
I had Franz behind me in his rental VZ commodore, & after going hard threw some twisty bends, I was surprised to see a V6 commodore still up my arse! We only got held up for a short period of time by a car, which politely pulled to the side of the road for us all to pass. As I passed their car, I looked over to them and waved to show I appreciated them letting us past. When I looked back to the road I was in the gravel & almost hit a pole… WHOOPS (But like I kept telling Franz, it was all deliberate haha).
After boosting the Zed all threw Cygnet and reaching the main road we all pulled over to wait for everyone to regroup. After a few minutes all the Zeds had regrouped (including one that had got lost from the starting point!!! So sorry Ben). We waited, & waited, but there was no sign of the Skyline crew. I’d say almost half an hour later all the Skyline boys flew past, they had gone the long way around, & totally missed the Cygnet turn off!!! So with most of the Skyline boys heading back to Hobart, Franz was keen to go back the way we had come (I think he liked the Cygnet stretch)!
So we all turned around and did it again, but it was a lot tamer this time round. So we get to the other side again & pull over. So we disuse which route to take back to Hobart & Franz suggests we do the Cygnet run AGAIN (Hmm, I think he REALLY liked this road). So we all turn around AGAIN, and go threw for a third time. We didn’t get stuck behind any traffic & it was great fun (even though I had a stock V6 commy on my arse the entire time again).
I have some video footage, but it's not great. Franz had his camera setup in the VZ, so hopefully he'll be able to post up & show you all why he was so keen to drive back & fourth over this stretch of road. :D

Was great to meet you Franz. Hope everyone had fun

Sounds like you had a good day Jono :)

I lost count of how many times we re-did our favorite bits of the Great Ocean Road!! Nothing like getting to know a great stretch of road :D

Big ups to Jono for organising the day!!! Turnout was pretty awesome - alot more than I expected!!!

Weather was great, roads were great and company was even better.

After the pub chasing the GTR, the BMW and the GTI-R was hard work. Only lost about 150m on them up until the turnoff - not bad for a stock Commodore :)

Cygnet is freaken awesome. Im about to check out the video *fingers crossed the video turned out*. I'll whack some pics and hopefully some video up shortly.

Cheers to all that came out; if someone came and I missed introducing myself, Im sincerely sorry.

    Video update:

Well I've picked a tune to edit to. But I don't have nearly enough interesting footage. It's all shot from the passenger seat looking foward (& looks slow, even though my average speed would have been over 100kph).
I'll have to see if I can get a copy of Stew's & Fran's footage.

Now where are all the pics that were taken???

Is the road to Cygnet you refer to - the Channel Hwy from Huonville through Cradoc?
Or the other way down through Snug and round the bottom through Verona Sands?

Either way it's a bloody ripper:)

My video looks really slow aswell; but it shows the zed working and shows how hard I was working to keep up! I'll put it up when I've got broadband. :)

Ive still gotta sort through my pics; I'll try and get them up as soon as I can.

yes, for some reason when i was taking those shots similar to the one you posted my camera started playing silly buggers and all the photos came out blurry? i think i may have accidentally hit the manual focus button, but then i am not sure why they came good again?

as for the commo: i had some memory left after we finished and I had shots of every1s car in the car park, so i thought 'what the heck...'

    Um...

    Not sure Cliff
I wasn't paying much attention to the street signs
We drove from Hounville along the Huon River, then turned off at Cygnet (I think the Skyline boys did the Verona Sands), & we exited at Oyster Cove.

    An AWWWWsome Day?

It was an awsome day, even though I got lost for a while:eek: . The turnout was very good and the weather was good. I am very keen for another cruise very soon, but this time I will not get lost:D . We should try an organise a trackday at baskerville or symons plains or maybe a Skid pan day.
