    Heyas,

Bought this Z for $8,100. (Yet to pick up) (Rego till Feb 06). 2 Seater N/A Auto. (171,xxxkm's, new engine done 65,xxxkm's) I want to remove the wing (Freeking huge) temporarily until I can weld the holes, anyone know the best way to go about this?

Basic Problems found on the car were:

Suspension needs re-doing as steering is heavy (Thinking its the camber kit) - Alt thread goes more into this.

Needs new tires as they are worn on the inside (Will get these done along with suspension)

Interior needs a clean (No leaks in the targa)

Cooling system doesnt need urget attention.. but as a pedantic person.. will need to be done.

general ware of a 16yo car.

Exhaust sounds tinny.. Need to change mufflers/exhuast tips.

Car looks familiar. Who/where did you buy it from (I'm thinking it was a forum member)? Not sure why it would have a camber kit, as it is using stock rims. I'd check the power steering fluid, tyre pressures and wheel alignment. I kind of like the rear wing, a lot of Z32's have them.

    Nice car and top price.

I think these Z's have speed sensitive steering and if something is wrong then it defaults to heavy. That may be wrong but I remeber reading it somewhere.

the steering defaults to zero assistance if the speedo instrument is not sending a speed/reading on to the computer, as it will assume that you arew doing 160KmH and so will not privide assistance [ do not ask me who the signal to the PwrStr comes through the spedo cirecrity and not direct from the sensor - its just the way it is]

If the tyres are all worn on the inside then you do have a camber/alingment problem, a quick static check is to put a spirit level onto each wheel [ rim edge NOT tyre], both vertical and horizontal, to see how much it is from true vertical and what the toe in/out is like for each wheel.

One of the local forum members put me onto a bloke who runns the only rolling road alignment set up in NSW, this thing is outstanding value, can even tell you if your tyres are out of round etc.

Pm me if your interested. in wing removal assistance or info re alignments. Could even come to the tech day !!!

    cheers

I bought it from a guy who owns a panel beating workshop in windsor. Basically it was sold to him as it was a "repairable rightoff" - Hit in the rear end and was better for the guy to get a payout from insurance company.

Picking the car up monday - was told the problem with the rear end was that one tire pressure was at 15 and the other at 40... but still I don't think that covers the heavy steering.

(Planning on buying laptop and a datascan cable.. need to enquire to this more, when finances recover!! =))

Tires had "flat spots" on the inside and the tread is minimal - needs new tires ($$$!) - any suggestions on which ones are reasonable quality and price, atm looking at $150 per tyre.

Will definatly need to get under the hood and clean the connections (Just not 100% sure about where all these connections are =))

From the picture (I think you can see the camber on the front tyre.. I see a negative camber on it - the front tyre looks kinda funny if you look real close) Planning to re- do the suspension and take the kit off (Want her a nice n stock) =)

Depending on the type of camber kit that is fitted (offset bushes v adjustable upper control arms) I wouldn't remove it. If you have the adjustable upper arms they give you far more flexability for adjustment (from stock settings, up to about -4 degrees) I think. Take the car to Autotech Engineering at Granville, speak to Spiro(owner) and get him to check it out fully. Tell him you're from the forum, or that I sent you there, he really knows Zeds (and he can be trusted). They also have an "in house" custom exhaust shop on the premises.

    Cheers

Why do I feel that my pockets are going to be empty very quickly ? =) But will definatly get someone to check it out - Either ill source the parts or them depends which works out cheaper (No Quality being sacrificed) =) Is it expensive there or pretty moderate?

Prices are reasonable, the big plus is you won't have to keep taking it back to get something re-adjusted or re-tightened. They will do it right the first time and if not, you won't be asked to pay extra to rectify anything.

if it was a repairable write off, chances are camber is there because of a bent arm.. also.. tired old suspension that has sagged will increase camber

seems a bit expensive of a zed to me

no offence but i think u got that for about 1-1.5G expensive but maybe coz of the spoiler and good looking paint it was expensive but it has so many faults!! coz of NA 2 seater auto is not that good of a combination back half way through last year Z prices were cheaper (i think)

    heya,

None taken (All responses welcome and appreciated). The body is pretty strait for an old car (This was the main selling point of the car). Shes pretty stock (Thats how I wanted one) rego till next year aswell. Plus the targa seals were replaced, along with alot of the seals on the car in general so no leaks =). Admittantly the mechanical aspect of the car is partially questionable, but should be ok for a while. (If worst comes to worst ill be buying a front cut with a manual transmission and replace as much as needs replacing) But for a 16yo car, its pretty strait (Or I thought so which probably doesnt say much ;) )

She was also blue slipped and "random" RTA inspection and she came out 2 thumbs up.. so that was also a big selling point. Also had a new engine dropped in the car at about 160,xxxkm's? engine has only done 50,xxx km's. (Somehow I think thats where the problem of heavy steering came from.. engine not connected up properly to some sensors (Or I could just be an idiot))

I need to build my mechanical experience - so a strait body and some TLC under the hood (Im happy with that... as long as my budget allows) ;)

Some TLC and some $$ and she 'should' *touch wood* be alright ;)

I don't want to this to sound like sour grapes on my part. But Sheesh!!

But you paid $1000 less for a car that was a write off and has faults like you posted here???

When you could have bought mine for $9000 totally straight, with a huge list of extras and a shit load of work done to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My car was too cheap after reading this.

Strikes me as a bit odd !!

But to each their own. Have fun fixing it up. I hope it doesnt end up costing you what I suspect it may.

I must actually try to advertise mine one day :)
