    Nooby question # 4.

What is the best speedo to fit into an imported model that has the 180 kph speedo.

Should I replace it with the 280 kph Aus Spec one or is the 300 kph one the way to go ?

Is there a problem using the 300 kph one at all ?

Thanks in advance for any help on this subject.

    isnt the aus spec 260km/h?

and i dont see why there would be a difference, you have to adjust your speedo anyway, if you want get it professionally done, if you have a/m sized mags then you should have had it done when they went on anyway.

if not just do it yourself with the diy on the site.

personally i would go the 300km/h one, besides the fact it goes up higher, has a neat lil Z on it.

unless you could get a 260 k/h one alot cheaper that is.

Only problem is I dont have any speedos left and havent had any made up

you could enquire about Plasmo's white face 300km/h gauge face set in the group buy section?

the speedo circuit needs to be recalibrated by replacing the resistor labelled R10. The resistor should come with the kit.

Thanks for the replies & info.

Fleet, If you happen to get any more made up, please advise. I will try Cresta in the meantime as I want a black faced one to match existing dash.

There is no rush to get one, the car drives just as well with the 180 kph speedo in it :D

Can anyone tell me why Nissan put a 180 kph speedo in a car that does a much higher speed ?

My mistake on the Aus Spec speedo, it is 260 isn't it ?
I would be happy to put one of those in if one is available anywhere.

I guess the J-Spec cars are limited to 184 kmph via the ECU programming, so no need for a speedo that shows a higher speed.

I have a line on getting one of these brand new. I can get it for $200.00. Is that a good/fair price for one of these? Unfortunately, I'm away for the next 6 months so a DIY is out of the question.
    Your thoughts on this speedo.............

wholy year and a half bump batman!

yeah that price sounds alright, something else i would do if i was gunna put a new speedo in...

get a light coloured pen (think ahead) and colour in the white line that points to the 50kph line....

my mates elantra has it coloured in, and i think itd be neat... u would have to plan ahead as to what colour to use with the blending of the back lights. would be neat tho in my opinion!!

lol and jschrauwen that isnt actually the one i was talking about hah! the one i was thinkin about is the one that dont say "sport" on the Z....

the one in my Z is Tomei one and goes up to 320;)

    Thanks for that Scump

    I must have missunderstood. :p
While we're on the subject, isn't there some sort of a simple mod one can do to the back circuit board of the speedo to prevent the inscecent ding ding ding that is generated once you hit 105kph? Something about placing a rubber gasket/washer onto one of the screw fittings on the back? I wonder if this idiotic function will be retained when the ECU gets chipped and programmed by Z1?

    Yeah mate.

Lift the instrument cluster hood, on the left hand side behind the cluster, there is a green wire with a clear plastic insulator over a connector. Simply unplug it and tape the bare wire. No more beep beep..
There is a tech areticle on this site too, but thjat's the jist of it.

    red32 You talkin' to me?

That's the beauty of the Aus-spec NA... you get a 260kph speedo, but you know you're never gonna use it all!

    Analogue Speedo Accuracy.

It is probably possible to get a custom built and calibrated speedo to have a top speed to fulfil your wildest fantasys.
The problem with an analogue speedo is that as the potential top speed increases, the accuracy of any given speed, as observed by the driver, diminishes. This may allow you to receive certificates of merit complimens of every speed checking device you pass whilst honestly believing you were just below the limit.
