Nearly got there but shredded a rear tyre on the way

I left Canberra at 07:00 and got as far as the Picton Rd turn-off (off the Hume Hwy) - about 250 km when my RHS rear tyre started flapping. I don't know how long it had been flat but was OK when I stopped at Sutton's Forest Maccas for coffee not all that long beforehand. I limped back home on the space-saver spare at 80 kph.

As you can see in the pic below the side wall of the tyre is cut, presumably by the rim once the tyre had gone flat. I am at a loss to understand why it went flat and am surprised that I didn't notice anything earler. Anyway the rim will need to be re-rolled and a new pair of 285s purchased and fitted - ouch to the hip pocket.

Red arrow shows dent now in rim. Green arrows show where the tyre was shredding with holes clear through the side wall.

So, I had a round trip over over 500 kms with no cruize :( but glad it was a success anyway.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Must have looked odd with that pencil thin tyre on the god father.
Nice to catch up with fellow Zeders' as always.
Nice people, nice view and plenty of parking,
    but the cafe scene
wasn't quite as 'hot' as last time.
    Bring on summer time.

    80kph on a space-saver... been there, got the T-shirt

Isn't it a BLOODY BORING way to travel Peter? Glad it went down all square (no rim puns intended) and didn't send you off the road.

    Yep Doug Boring as Batshit

Got passed by semis, cars towing caravans, coaches, motor scooters, cyclists, rickshaws, marathon runners ....

Glad it was only 250 kms. Must admit I didn't realise what a PITA it would have been for you at Coona.

Anyway, all's well that ends well. At least my space saver was fully inflated as I topped it up before Coona.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Was seriously one of the best weekends i've had EVER:thumbsup:

Coonabarabran was great, but the thought of going Months without meeting up with you all again was something I wasn't willing to let happen.

Sydney streets take a little getting used to, but WOW what fun

HUGE THANKS TO HAYLZ AND TIM (Haylz PSA) For letting me stay with you and for putting up with me over the weekend. It's GREAT to finally be able to put images to the names such as "KRISPY KREME" Or "PANCAKES ON THE ROCKS"

Another HUGE THANKZ To Caz For letting me stay over on Saturday night as well:thumbsup:

Was a weekend not to be forgotten.

NOW FOR THE CRUISE  WOW WOW WOW!!!

What great views. The roads may be a little bumpy, and traction hard to find for some (ZBOOST);):p

    BUT DAMN WHAT A VIEW!!!!

After a couple of cars (HaylZ 2+2 and Tim's ASOLUTELY HOTT CANDY RED SUBARU) decided to take the scenic route;) IE: went the wrong way:LOL:

We came through the national park only to find there had been an accident including a motorcycle:( NOT A PRETTY SIGHT!:(

With the sad part out of the way. SOME DAMN SEXY ZEDS:eek: :eek:YUMMMMM!!! That Yellow Ozz 300 was enough to take my breath away:thumbsup:

I consider all of you like FAMILY:cool: Can't wait to hop a plane and fly down again REALLY SOON:thumbsup:

  17. red32

    red32 You talkin' to me?

    Batshit would have been exciting!

Yeah, 300+km @ 80kph. Fortunately there were some road works where the speed limit was 40kph, so we could keep up with the other Vics. But then it went back to normal highway speeds, and, byebye!
The really bad bit was when we (Baroo in front on the spare) got passed by a busload of schoolkids. Jeez, my middle finger got some exercize then!
Thank (The God of Your Choice) for energy drinks.

    Awesome Cruise

Had an excellent cruise through the national park and along the coast road down to woolongong. It was great to get out and see some other zeds and talk to some people who have "been there, done that" and can help out with dilemnas, problems and ideas that you might have for your zed. Nice bunch of people and an all round great day. Looking forward to the next one.
