Painting my hatch and spoiler

So my hatch and spoiler have shed their clear coat and is in need of repainting. So the question is if I have to take out the glass to do so? The panelbeater is trying to have me sign a paper that will bail them off responsibilities if the glass breaks while it's taken out. Is this reasonable? A mate says that I can actually paint it with the glass in place.

    Glass out.

You can paint it with the glass in place, but you will run the risk of the paint not adhering cleanly, along the entire border adjoining the rubber seal around the glass.
It would be far better to paint it with glass removed.

Don't they have any windscreen glass replacement companies in WA (Novus or O'Briens)?? One of these guys should be able to remove the glass safely(and refit it afterwards).

    quite standard

Its always a risk removing the glass, so they just want to be covered. Even when I contacted a specialist windscreen shop they said it may break on removal.

The rear screen is very easy to remove, but they are in there right to ask

you to" sign a paper that will bail them off responsibilities if the glass breaks ".
To do the job right you need to remove the glass:thumbsup:

    thanks for the answer

The reason I'm asking is that I just saw somebody's 300ZX getting prepped with the rear glass in place (or so it seems) on this forum and they ask me to pay $140 just for the glass removal and replaced back, so I was thinking I could put that money somewhere else and not risk the glass damage.

The other option is blending the paint back, depending on skill level.

If you wanted a show car, then sure spare no expense, but I just got mine blended and it looks great to me.

I'll get a photo taken over the weekend and post it.

what you should do is get O'brians or some one like that to remove the

rear screen then take it to the painters .I think they charge something like $50/$60 for the R&R , it sounds like the beater just dosnt want to do it( lazy buggers).
If you paint up to the edges of the screen you run a bigger chance of it cracking off in a few years time.
It might look great now but a few years of sun and dirt falling into the edge of the paint is the killer to masking back on the screen.
I have take 3 out myself and never broken 1  so maybe give it a shot yourself:zlove:
