I did the test the other day with my mate and i could hear 2 quite load leaks at about 10 psi.

the first leak is (as you are looking at the car from the front) down the bottom right towards the front of the car from the radiator, anyone know what this could be, or if it matters...

the other one is behind the engine on the leftish of middle, has anyone else that has done this test is there meant to leak out the back of the engine there??

im guessing not but just making sure before i go to fix it this weekend...

    thanks in advance..

The one in the bottom front corner could be a few things i guess.

Is it in the recirc valve area? i had a couple of leaks down there from the things in these pics:

This little pipe which has nothing plugged into it was leaking cos the hose attached was not pushed fully on.

The red arrow in this pic points to where there was a crack in the weld on this pipe

The leaks you can hear at the back of the engine are common i think. Could be a split in the hose which goes from balance tube to air regulator, leaky gasket on AAC valve, leaky EGR valve or vac line

By the way be careful how much pressure you are pumping into the engine, 10psi might be too much, you could blow out oil seals. i think 5psi would be enough

Firstly, please get used to describing locations correctly: Driver's side/right side - Passenger side/left side.

Front left leak prolly from IC piping. Access from under & behind wheel arch splash guard. RH middle leak prolly from Turbo inlet hose.

    See diagram: (LH drive vehicle)

I have seen two so far of the flange that goes to the recirc being inadequatly welded at the factory.

The flange is the one where the recirc collet is welded to the intake pipe. I had to rebraze mine. They just missed it at the factory. And it wasnt welded all the way around.

I have since seen another exactly the same so I think it may have been a production problem that took a while to fix.

    more questions...

thanks for that k-zed just one thing tho, mines a non-turbo...

lysergic and tektrader im under the impression you guys are talking about the same leak down on the front left...does this have to be welded or can you seal it another way... also what does this leak effect?

me thinks the one at the rear right of the engine bay is gonna be hard to get too...so could take a while...

    Ah, my bad :(

Easier to locate intake/vac leaks on NA ~ pass side front prolly from air-filter hard pipe to plastic intake or vacuum hoses. Driver's side either of the 2 PCV's, same position TT or NA.

    Easy to get to.

    Re: more questions...

The pipe you have the picture of above with the arrow pointing toward the bracket, is the same in a TT and an NA.

I ended up having to dismantle the air intake and pull the pipe out of the car. The leak was huge and about half of the circumferance of the pipe stub.

I ended up brazing it up and spraying a coat of paint on it.

While I was there I also ripped out the old Air box pipes that go under there, as with the pod filter they are not needed.

It had been there from new, just hadnt been brazed up at the factory so must have been running slightly lean for years on one side of the engine.

My pinging issue got much better afterward.

will get onto these leaks asap

Cool tektrader, i hope i get something good out of fixing it up too!!

could running lean on one side cause hesitation??

i sure hope so, o2 sensors are expensive

Owen i just put silicon over the leak on my car. obviously what graham

did is the best way to fix it but i couldn't justify pulling it all apart at that stage plus i dont have an oxy welder. silicon will seal it fine but just won't be as permanent as re welding it
