Daughter who drives 300TT telephoned me tonight to say smoke was comming from the engine....I said I'll be right there.

Now she has had the car for 8weeks and in that time I have checked the running temp with an aditional temp guage installed and checked all the hoses etc and personally driven the car for 800km on a weekend to make sure all is well.

Tonight I get to her friends place and there has been a hole blow in the radiator hose (Top) and pump all the water out before either of the temp guages could respond and then she continued to drive the car until it stopped with " a big cloud of smoke". fisrt thing I fixed the hose.

I spent 2 hours slowly adding water and finally got it full and drove it towards home. All semmed well. After 10 minutes the temp went to 190, 195 and then I boosted it and it shot straight to 205. I pulled over and and water was pumping from the over flow.

Any and all suggestions appreciated for a good repairer Brizzy Southside. Mark(Z for Life) has given me someone on the Gold Coast that sounds real good.....but I'm after a comparison of someone closer to my home....

May be it is just an air lock I didn't get out due to the heat and she may have gotton away with it.......I'll know tomorrow morning when I refill it again from cold this time. Shit Shit Shit.

At least we she is in the RACQ and it only cost $4.50 for the tilt tray......

Sounds like warped head to me dude.

It sounds like the engine comubustion is making it's way into the cooling system, presurising it to the point which exceeds your rediator cap and venting out the surge bottle. I think a replacement engine may be the best value from a front cut. Is there water in the oil?

    Head gasket is blown

gavin woods or a second hand motor as per post above.

    Try Proline at Yatala or

Gavin Wood on the Gold Coast.

Doesn't sound too good but it might be you didn't get enough coolant into the engine. But a severely overheated engine is something to be avoided at all costs with a Z. So this might mean big dollars to fix. ($4-5K for secondhand engine installed) Keep us posted on progress we may be able to help.

Unfortunately it sounds like a head gasket and on the Z that is big money.

However as your thinking there is a possibility that you havent got enough water into the system and it is the problem.
They are hard to bleed and sometimes unless you get it properly bled you will have overheating problems. I hope its that for your sake:(

    Might not be so bad

A similar thing happened to my zed after I imported it.

About a month after my z landed in the country, It overheated whilst Dad was driving. He Pulled over straight away as steam was pouring out from under the bonnet. He also slowly added water once the car cooled down a little, then drove it home. Ended up being caused by a really crappy cooling system, with hoses everywhere full of crap and perished. One hose gave up and exploded.

We did a plenum pull, replaced all hoses, 100K service, did the bypass and flushed raidator and block. About $900 just in parts. When I first drove it after fixing everything, it overheated again. I thought the engine must have been screwed, but after filling the radiator again properly, it hasn't overheated in nearly a year. Looking back, Im glad it did overheat - forced me to find this site and do a lot of preventative maintenance.

    Get a compression check done.

hope your story ends as well as mine did.
