These Turbos are off a 300ZX TT imported from some mob in Melbourne. They are in good nick and no play in the spindle. Only problem is they don't come with the exhaust housings. - doesn't matter, the ones on my Zed are fine... I mainly bought these for the Actuators (cause i need one for my drivers side turbo) this way, I got 2 actuators for the price of 1 - and a couple of turbos attached for free... Quick question, if I had these turbos upgraded with ball-bearings, etc, do they need the exhaust housings to do the upgrade? or is that just left as-is and just do up the turbo itself...??? ie: can i have these new turbos upgraded while i'm still driving the Zed around, then do a swap some time?? So, do they look ok for $100??? BTW, now I have spare actuators, is anyone willing to swap my dud drivers' side actuator with a new one for me??
It's impossible to judge the condition of used turbo's by sight alone. Why are the exhaust housings missing? You CANNOT upgrade these to B/Bearings, as you need to change the entire centre section (rust coloured section, or cartridge) to do so. That effectively leaves you with just the compressor housings for re-use.
Re: It's impossible to judge the condition of used turbo's by sight alone. dont quote me on this but aparently its worth to change the ceramic fans to steel or sumfin?
We won't quote you .... Despite what you read in HPI, Zoom, or Autospeed, Z32's DO NOT have ceramic turbos. Steel since day 1.
Aaah, good! - I thought they were ceramic also.. surely i can still do something to them to make them better than stock though???
yes, but then there is the added cost of fabrication to have them... fitted. I'm assuming that i won't be able to get a "massive" power increase simply because the are still physically small turbos but I thought there may be some minor upgrade/mod that is available so it is just a straight bolt-on procedure being stock turbos...
Yes, there is a minor mod....High flowing for around $500 each!! But even then, the workshop is going to want the exhaust housings.
Aaah, that's probably the sort of mod i'd be looking for.... but to do that, they need the exhaust housing ey..? what sort of estimated power gains from this mod do you reckon??
Re: That is a good start. But what is the next step to upgrade a stock turb I have 3 quotes on options that GCG gave me. Upgrades to the standard turbos. You can get a ball bearing chra for $1400ea. But i'm not so sure about GCG. But if you want a copy of the quote(s) provided I can dig it up at work for you.
