    interesting.

shadows, can you explain how an UD pulley results in less torque down low. the only thing i can think of is that it might results from more load down low, so hotter exhaust gas pushing turbos harder.

this won't happen on an NA though.

the main difference i can think of between an auto an manual, is that the manual will transverse the rev range more as the car accelerates as it has more gears. hence weight savings of UD pulley would be more beneficial.

as for not effecting timing, well as i've said i doubt that these effects are going to play an important role for a vg. but to say that a UD pulley has nothing to do with timing is incorrect. possibly as you said the belts may absorb vibrations, so mechnical timing will be good, but cas runs of gears, so any twisting of the crank will reveal itself clearly on ignition.

Nissin has a lot to answer for with the firewall design

or in this case lack of it. To be honest i do think that in 10 to 15 years time there will be accident because of metal fatigue around the firewall.
But hey look at the problems nissin has with the ZG30 motor and how everyone has blown up in under 50,000 kms
and nissin for 2 years refused to admit there was a proble now they are telling everyone its with the EGV valves...

    Crap

Take a closer look at firewall/brake booster on any Zed NOT fitted with a BMcyl brace, whilst someone depresses the brake pedal!

why do you think its crap ?

I feel the amount of stress in the standard firewall design exceeds the amount of force a person can put thought it under panic breaking. Its general accepted that the aftermarket brake surport braces that attach to the suspension surport tower to a fantastic job of fixing this problem. Yes I have concrns over the period of 25- 30 years life of this car that some poor pastard one day will have the firewall move on them enought to stop all the force they need to go throught to the brake booster. As it is now you know how much the fire wall flexes your self.

not a harmonic balancer, harmonic damper

check my post above on torsional harmonics. to damp these vibrations is purpuse of harmonic damper, not balance.

nissans end goal, and enthusiasts end goals do not necessarily coincide.

tailshaft: keep vibrations down. most modern cars have two-piece items. nissan got it right for its purpose.

crankshaft pulleys: nissan got this right IMHO.

fuel injectors: more the sufficient fuel for its purpose. smaller injectors lead to larger injection times which are less suseptible (sp?) to fuel pressure pulsation. more accurate fuel dosing at the level of power output nissan designed the car for.

turbos: 11.7 second 1/4 mile on stock turbos. what more do you want? no problem with factory power output, and well beyond.

brakes: hehe. no arguement here. should have been bigger.

HICAS: debatable. read a huge post where testing was done with g-meter and it was found that car turned better with hicas. can't remember details though.

etc: debatable. nissan paid a lot of very smart people a lot of money to get this car right. i think they succeeded.
